MPG
#27
I have the m271 as well.. I had mpg issues along with starting issues and it turned out to be a defective fuel filter. My mpgs were in the low 20's on the highway barely and after I installed a new oem fuel filter. I got up to 36mpg just cruising on the highway.

I agree - especially in places like California. One of the problems is convenient availability. Many stations carry no diesel & you need to look for a truck stop.

Around 400 on a tank for me. I usually fill it up around 1/4, but when I have pushed it it has been just under 400. Of that is on my mixed commute driving, a bit more on the highway.

Yeah but it has gotten better at least in my area you can't really find one that does not have it. I remember when i was in socal i noticed that most stations did not.

My first car was a '83 MB 300SD and man, was it a pain in the *** to find diesel! But you guys are right, it's definitely gotten better.
If I go all highway, I can squeeze 400 miles out of a tank and I'm in the v6 c230. Also, I calculate my mpg's on how much I have to fill up the tank to how much I've driven because it's more accurate. Any idling before driving the car will screw up the average shown on the computer.
And why doesn't MB USA import more diesels? It doesn't really have to do with MB USA, it has to do with fuel giants pouring money into the politicians to keep some wierd regulations up so that they can make more money off higher consuming vehicles. Think about it for a second...if half the cars in the US were made diesels getting twice the mpg, that's roughly half the profits gas companies are losing.
Money talks, bull**** works, that's just how the world goes round.

My goal in life is to go to Germany and find the w203 diesel amg preferably wrecked. then ship it to the US and transplant everything to my w203. I will have to wait till my car no longer needs emissions so 25 years i think so what is that 2026 lol or i need to license the car outside of va in some state that does not do emissions

This is just me, but...
I don't use any gasoline additives in my V6 3.2L C320. (Never even thought to do so.) My guess is the additives alone are screwing your MPG... The ECU has to learn and will accomodate whatever fuel you feed it, but only within reason. Go to straight gasoline for at least 3 tanks before you see the car settle into its new routine.
I buy gas at the local Tom Thumb grocery store. What "brand" they sell, I have no idea... don't care. I think it's 10% methanol.
I've been using midgrade (89) for 4 years now. No driveability problems whatsoever. It doesn't like 87 octane at all, but 89 offers no difference compared with recommended 91. As noted before the ECU makes the adjustment to 89 just fine.
I start the engine and wait for the adjustable steering wheel to drop to the driving position, then I put it in gear and go. (maybe 8-10 seconds) ie., no warmup at all. Time sitting still is gas wasted.
I do use Mobil 1, 0-40w oil exclusively. I change it once a year (about 8-10k miles). I've noticed a steady increase in mileage through 70,000 miles. I'm told that Mobil 1 actually delays engine break-in over a very long period of time.
I drive a mixture of city (5 miles) followed by highway driving (10 miles) to my destination regularly. Steady acelerations and decelerations. No jackrabbit starts. I usually have the a/c control set to "rest" (compressor disengaged). This is very important.
I achieve 365-390 miles per tank, always. 24.5mpg tank average, with an avg tank speed of 37-38mph.
On exclusively highway trips, I can regularaly crack 430 miles per tank, 31mpg, and the best I've ever seen is 33.4mpg. Max mileage seems almost entirely dependent on ambient temperature.
I'm perfectly happy with my gas mileage in my 10-yo W203. Just crossed over 80,000 miles on the odo.

That's strange you get so little. What have you done to your car?

That's one thing I forgot to ask is, how come trey and bob have 3.2 v6 and they get more than norwich and I with a 2.5 v6?

The 2.5L V6 is the least efficient V6 model per member experiences from what I've always read. The 3.2L and 3.5L often return better mileage. I personally was able to crack over 30MPG with a 204 C350 and not able to get out of mid-20s in a 2007 C230.
When I drove Drew's C230 around one night, we managed a trip computer average of 18. That BLOWS. I rarely see below 23 in my C230K even in city grind.
And let's not compare the liberal emissions "bs" with the conservative "screw the planet, we're all gonna die anyway" mentality.

They're both full of **** which means we're all screwed anyway. Better get ready for the revolution!

39,000 miles and nothing has been done.... New air filter thats about it? Well engine wise. Its not time for a new fuel filter right?

My car has been dropping in range the past month. Before, i would always get to 400+ on a full tank but now I'm barely breaking 350. I'm waiting until summer blend comes back before I start throwing money into new plugs or coils. I've recently changed my fuel filter and spark plugs so any thoughts on this drop?
Also, when coming to a complete stop, my rpm's drop very low for an instant and lights dim out slightly during this, but always recovers back to normal.

Driving at 60mph rather than 70 mph can decrease your fuel consumption by around 10%.
Wind resistance is a large factor.

My best guess would be the fuel filter problem. Can't think of anything else.
As far as your lights dimming and rpms going down, never heard of such a thing. Should prob get that checked out pretty soon or it sounds like your car might stall on you one day.

Yeah your correct. Yesterday i did a test.. I was driving around and stopped at 5 gas stations.. and NONE had diesel.. Maybe that was because i stopped at all chevrons hahahaha
My MPG is so low.. if i took a picture of what ive been getting for the last 2k miles you all would laugh.
