New to site and looking forward to some feedback..

CEL on 2007 C230 was recently scanned by local mechanic and came up as P000B (continuous camshaft adjustment right side and incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft)....my mechanic has basically told me that to correct this problem will run me easily $5000 plus - has anyone had a similar code come up and how was it resolved? Cant seem to find any real info on this fault code and what it really involves.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you under warranty? You may be affected by the bad sprocket of the balance shaft. Attached is a DTB that contains information about it.

You really need to have the car scanned with a STAR machine to get the MB specific trouble code, and not the generic OBDII code.

PM me your VIN number and I can look up your engine serial number and see if it falls in that range of affected engines.

Hoping for the best. Sounds bad for $5000.

sad part is the car runs smooth - no indication of any problem until the CEL came on

OK, your engine serial number is: 272920 30 426360. That means it falls into the affected engines of that DTB.

Something is not quite right with the fault code you listed, as I don't see that in the OBDII list of codes. But, based on your fault code description "continuous camshaft adjustment right side and incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft", that is OBDII code P0014 or P0015, which translates to MB specific codes 0059 and 0060.

Good news, is it doesn't appear at this time, you have the balance shaft sprocket issue, but you do have the solenoid/magnet issue. That issue is cheap and easy to fix. You just need to replace the corresponding camshaft adjustment solenoids. The attached PDF details it as well as this thread. If you are mechanically inclined you can easily replace them yourself. If not, any shop should replace them in short order.

John Thank You so much for this information...what a great help! I was going solely from info given from my mechanic he provided both the fault code and both descriptions - I thought it was strange that 1 fault code would have 2 associated problems. I will head to MB and get the magnet/solenoid issue looked at.

BTW - the photo of your car looks identical to the one i"m having problems with love the diamond black and sport package...Thanks again and have a good evening!

If you are going to the dealer, print out the bulletin, and ask them to call the regional MB representative, and see if they will fix it for you for free. I am told that MB is taking care of some of these as a goodwill gesture for those out of warranty. Worth a shot.

Yeah, when I ran your VIN I noticed you had Diamond Black. Great choice

Good Morning John - just wanted to Thank You for your advice earlier in the week....just heard back from MB service and fault code 0060 is my problem "right side camshaft solenoid". Trying to see if they will fix it for free based on the bulletin that I printed out (does not seem to be an expensive repair)...just glad its not the balance shaft.

In your experience is the balance shaft an issue that I should really be worried about in the future?

Thanks again

Code P00015
Hello;
Where is the bank one (code P00015) camshaft exhaust hall sensor? There seems to be three sensors over the two cams?
