Black out the chrome accent strip on the side, rear, and front molding/impact strips?

I'd like to make that chrome strip that circles the car a gloss black that matches the paint. Any suggestions? Paint, smoke/tint, etc.?

Thanks,
John W.

I think vinyl is the way to go for this project.

Just don't do Pink Chrome like your wheels. I know you liked the safari chicks car and pmed that you're going to do a zebra interior but with pink stripes so just warning you. The rims are enough.

If you have a black car please post pics after doing it. I just painted my grill and I'm thinking about doing what you're doing.

If you have a local pepboys get some "blackout tape" it is about $5 a roll and 2 should be enough. Did mine this way. Looks great. Not permanent. No painting!

Did the rub strips all around and the window belt line. Pics in a few!

Correction, Drove An '05 C230 Kompressor SS

Did the De-Chroming about a year ago, and it still looks just as good as Day One.

First .... Measure the longest chrome strip on your car, Then Go Get yourself a piece of High Performance Black Gloss (or Your Color Choice) Vinyl from Any Vinyl Grafix/Signs shop in your area.
Purchase a piece that's about 6" longer then that strip you measured earlier.
I think A piece that's 24" x 48" is more then plenty and should only run you $15 -$20.

You'll also need an Xacto knife with a few sharp replacement blades,
A Spray bottle with very mild soapy water.
A regular Utility knife (to initially cut the 1" x Length of your Chrome strip)
A High heat hair dryer or Heat Gun
A Vinyl applicator squeegee, And a straight edge Meter stick.

1)First Pre-Cut the strips for each chrome strip on the car... Leaving yourself extra vinyl on each end of each strip. Use a long straight edge or Meter stick to get a 1" tall X Length of strip on car plus an extra inch or two.

2) lightly spray one strip at a time and Line the straight edge of the Vinyl to the top of the chrome strip.

3) Once the strip of vinyl is in the desired spot, Use the hair dryer and carefully heat the vinyl as you squeegee the soapy water out.
Once the vinyl is set in place, Use the Xacto knife and trim the excess vinyl off the bottom by following the factory indention on the car.

4) Once done with the first strip...... grab a beer or Soft drink of your choice, Stand back, and look at your great work of art.

5) Proceed to the next 12 strips,... and Before you know it........ Your Done!

This took me about 3 hours to do, However.... My Phone wouldn't stop ringing and I usually can't talk and work on a car at the same time, So there were a lot of mini breaks in between strips.

Good Luck and Post pics of your progress.

This weekend I'll take better quality pics and post them up if any of you would like.

Pic of it on the lot, the day I bought it.

Pics from today with the blackout tape, sorry for poor quality. Taken with my cell phone and the car is incredibly dirty!

Hope to give you some ideas!

Thanks for sharing fellas...great ideas by the both of you. Gonna look into this myself, been meaning to get rid of those maroon colored window/weather strips and the black tape sounds like the perfect solution.

Yeah they are Gunmetal. Appears previous owner rattle canned them. They are ok for now atleast. Haven't found a set of wheels that I really like yet.

this looks really good on a black car. would like to see Phi so I can see what it would look on a white car, hopefully just as good!

I also like those gunmetal wheels, I might want to make my stock wheels that color.

Picked up a roll of the blackout tape at Pep Boys today. After removing it from the package, it looks a little too flat/matte compared to the black paint of the car. I'm guessing I should probably go with the gloss black vinyl as suggested? I'm thinking this tape is better suited for the matte black trim pieces around the windows and windshields...
