Can I remove/pry the telephone antenna from the rear windshield? Please help.

It appears the telephone antenna on the rear windshield is simply stuck on with high strength adhesive. If I remove it (pry it off), will there be a hole in the glass with a wire running through or anything underneath there? If so, obviously I don't want to remove it, as rain would get in. I know the top part screws off, but I'm talking about the little square base. Does anyone know what lies beneath? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There is no hole it uses a through glass antenna so on the other side of the glass there is a thing stuck there. I would think a razor blade and goo gone type of thing would work find. Why are you removing it?

Great! Thanks so much! To make a long story short, I got a fairly expensive semi-custom car cover and that stock antenna sticking up punctured a hole in the cover. My fault, because I was stretching it too much and didn't think about the possibility of that happening, but anyway, now it won't be a problem. Also, I just think it'd look a little more 'smooth' without it.

so you removed it already? What did you use and how hard was it?

Since it's very unlikely that I'll ever use the MB phone and nobody else will either, I want to remove mine too because I just don't want it there.

Yep, did it a few hours ago, super easy, takes 2 min. or less. I just used some Goo Gone, a plastic trim removal tool to help pry it loose, and a razor blade scraper to remove the excess adhesive stuff off the glass.

Good riddance I say, Just out of curiosity has the FM signal deteriorated at all? Forgive my ignorance but I thought that ugly thing was also a part of the FM antenna.

Indeed, the radio antenna is integrated into the rear windshield.

So if we have the phone antenna, does that also mean the car is set-up for the phone to work via the radio interface? If not, why would they install just the antenna?

The set up consists of several items...just because you have an antenna doesnt mean you have the rest of the "parts " for the system...i think it was done out of mass production...

I would say you can either silicone it, thin layer ( works best on windows in my experience) or you can use double stick tape

Yea you could have mine too. I'd use some type of automotive adhesive. Maybe weatherstripping adhesive.

Sorry for the old thread but I wanted to get more info because this is on our clk320 coupe.

So I have to ask... if this is part of NAVI will that be affected as well? I can't seem to find a solid source for this?

I too just got a custom car cover and don't want to poke a hole in it. We have comand head unit with NAVI but we do NOT have the mb telephone. In this case if it affects navigation I would not want to remove it, however, if it only affects telephone reception then I would have no issue removing it.

Thanks,
-Nigel

Just use E6000 or shoe goo ( they're both the same ). Put a super thin layer on the base and your all good to go.

It's not directly tied to the nav, BUT the phone system incorporates the SOS feature which is in turn tied to the nav to help figure out your location in case of emergency...at least that's my understanding of it...The antenna for the nav is under the dash but you prolly know that already...

Sweet, that's good to know. I push the SOS feature all the time and nothing happens so I guess that isn't a big deal now especially being that the car is 10 years old. I just wanted to make sure 100% that I could remove this ugly antenna since currently serves no purpose and will only get in the way with the car cover that I am getting.

Thanks!

Hi Guys!

I acknowledge this is a super old thread, but my antenna just fell off also and I am looking for another one to throw on.

Anyone have one sitting around that they would want to part with?

I have a bone stock 2005 C230 Kompressor.

Anyone?

Funny...I'm REALLY debating taking mine off...now that I have the Sirius dot there...

I certainly don't need the OEM pole antenna...I have no need for TeleAid, especially since they (MBUSA) are not supporting analog. I have no need for it IF it is linked to my linear compensator for phone - because I have upgraded to OEM MHI and Bluetooth...

So...I MAY have one....

CAN ANYONE POST WITH IT OEM - REMOVED to confirm NO HOLE?!/etc.Please.

Bone stock...why do you want it...to keep it bone stock OEM?

Hey BF JC230!!!

I can confirm that on the 2005 C230 there is NO hole in the windshield. there is just some spongy adhesive left on the window... I can send you a picture to confirm as it sits now.

Yes... just simply to keep it stock.
