Problem at Gas Pump
Problem at Gas Pump
ive been having a problem while getting gas. apparently it overflows every single time without that click.
i dont get why its doing this. by the time i get that click that indicates its full its already overflowing.... does anyone have this problem or know how to get it resolved? or if there even is an issue? could it be the gas station i go to? could it be their pumps?

? I thought it was a sensor on the pump nozzle itself that decided when the tank was full. Maybe it's some sort of weird interaction between those pumps and the MB tank design? It might be good to try another place, if you haven't already.

I don't think that it's a design problem on the car, because on my C I can't get the car to fill at full flow without clicking off the fuel nozzle.
All of my other cars, just put the nozzle in, squeeze the nozzle fully, and fuel up. This car requires fueling at about 1/2 speed.
Do you always fill up at the same station? Same pump? It is probably related to the nozzle.
Is the nozzle fully in the tank, or is it just "hanging on"? If just hanging on, then this is most likely the cause.

try either inserting the pump into your car more than usual (shove it down there more), or less than usual (let it hang out more), see if that helps.
*even though this post sounds perverted, it is not.

that happens all of the time with my CLK. I watch it and when the gas can be seen at the top I stop the pump and push it in and out a few times to drain the excess gas back into my tank. Seems to work, but it is sometimes a pain

Too deep and too fast causes premature shut-off...

Cheers, BT
i never had this issue with my accord. but its always been happening with my C. i go to the same station cus its the cheapest place around and its near where i live
. but i do try different pumps. the pumps at this station is rather fast. i tried inserting it further in but the outcome is the same. i even tried stopping it before it was full then continuing slowly. then when i hear the click, i hear this sound. the sound is like a bottle filling up rather quickly and about to overflow thats when i know im screwed. the first time i heard it i tried to pull it out as soon as possible, but it just made the spill worse. :
im starting to worry, isnt gas on your paint not good? especially since it happens every week?

Time to go back
to the dealer on this one. It's an emissions-system problem,so they're obligated to fix it.My guess is that the tank isn't venting properly while filling. If I try to fill mine too quickly, the gas pump just shuts off...never burps gas back out.
Your car is an '03...has it always done this?.

The big overflow you had created enough pressure to dislodge the vent obstruction.A messy/risky way to fix what should be fixed ASAP by the dealer.
INTAKEX-it's also possible that the evaporative recovery system was mis-assembled at the factory.Something's not right. This is a warranty job that you should have fixed at your car's next trip to the dealer.

Yes, it's very bad and very noticeable on white paint. It will turn yellow. Make sure to get it all cleaned up as soon as possible. The longer it sits, the worse it will be. And the effects are usually worse on plastic, so if it runs all the way down on the bumper, make sure to get it all off. I have seen cars where the discoloration could be buffed off the metal panels if it hadn't been on there too long. But it was near impossible to remove it from the plastic bumpers.

i wash my car every week. i usually wait till then to wash it off. i guess its time for me to wash my car tomorrow. if it is a defective part and the bumper discolors, isnt that under warranty also? since it was their fault?

Maybe, but I wouldn't risk it. And I'm not sure that washing once a week is good enough. If you spill gas on the paint, I would wash it as soon as possible. At least wash that part of the car and rinse it off.
