Poor C240 start problem
May be my 1st post....
I got a 2001 C240 6SPD Manual(W203) back in the winter time this year. It was running fine but has a EPS malfunction. After I checked on the forum I replaced the lateral acceleration sensor and the code disappear.
As the temperature got hot recently, I was traveling 60 miles away from home and the car stalled and will not start again. I towed it back home and it started fine after 1 hour sitting on the tow truck. It looks like a Crankshaft Position Sensor issue so I got it replaced by a local shop. (I brought the parts from a reputable shop online which is a genuine Bosch)
Seems it's back working as I did some 60-100miles drive in the past few days. However, the problem happens again this morning,
1. The car will start at cold. And after you drive it for a while (10miles) then parked it for like 10-20mins. It has trouble starting.
2. The engine cranks fine. Just not catching, sometimes it catches, but immediately stalled. It will starts eventually if you tried it like 10 times.
3. If it starts, it drives fine and will not stall. (at least for 15miles I drove today)
4. The engine will not rev pass 4500rpm. At first I thought it was a rev limit at neutral. Then I tried it on road. For the 1st and 2nd gear I tried (kick down and hold), it will not go pass 4500RPM.
5. There is no check engine light on the dash.
6. All these problems happens after the CPS was replaced. Before then, it is totally OK for short distance commute.
7. Battery and alternator looks fine as it holds the charge. Fuel filter, spark plugs and air filter are replaced 1 month ago.
Possible faulty CPS? Possible been ripped off by the shop who did my CPS replacement?
Anyone has any idea of what's happening on my poor C240? input will be much appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Some update this morning. Cold start also be a problem. Crank for 5-8 seconds and a foot of gas make it starts.
Fuel filter replaced a month or two ago.

that's probably your problem these cars NEED the oem fuel filter if u didn't buy oem replace it again if u did buy oem it might be defective or not installed correctly

Try the fuel filter I had the same problem, it was driving me crazy, check your fuel pressure this will reveal everything.
I too had my filter replaced with a non oem one and a month or two later I started having similar issues. Good luck.

Fuel pressure should be 3.8 bar. I would be very suspicious of the CPS.

2003 CLK240
Hi Everybody,
Before you all jump at my neck, I know it's an older thread but since it seems like the problems described are similar to mine.
I have a CLK240 so basically the same M112 2.6 V6 as the C240. My car doesn't always start on the first key and it seems like nobody can figure out what the issues is. Once it starts it runs beautiful but the start is a bit iffy sometimes.
I changed the MAP sensor and some vacuum hoses on the front of the engine since my mechanic told me that the MAP and the hoses was the cause of this issue. Once I changed them my car started first key but after I went for a drive it didn't want to start on the first key anymore
Can it really be the vacuum hoses (maybe ones I haven't changed yet) ? Or is this fuel filter, CPS or ... ?
