Has anyone bought the nice chrome fob key (USED) off ebay and try to get the dealer to reprogram? or attempted to change out their key yet with another used one?

Dealer wants $270 + tax on a new key programmed

I recently was thrown in the swimming pool at a party and my smart key was in my pocket. It got wet. Only thing that works is it lets me crank up the car. The wireless unlock/lock don't work no more.

negative they are not reprogramable. Do not do it! You want to try your luck? I bought one from EBAY for 50 dollars and the dealer couldnt reprogram because they cant. I'll mail it to you if you want to give it a shot but its a paperweight for me

If you are looking to just replace your key with the newer version key then there is a thread floating around here where it shows you how to swap the internals so it works. There is also a user on here, darknight if my memory serves me well, that was swapping internals for a small fee since soldering is involved but it is possible. The dealership cannot reprogram keys but you can swap internals. Just do some searching and you will find all the info you need. Good luck.

if you know of a local, key cutting place try them, they generally have good deals from the dealers, or they have a centralized delare that they have a deal with and will be able to give you better pricing as compared to a dealer.

If your current key remote doesn't work then it's pointless to try and swap non-working internals. You'll need to get a new one from the dealer.

save yourself the headache and just buy a new key. You can spend hours online looking for a solution and making a ton of phone calls but in the end. You will have to buy a new key thats preprogrammed from germany or texas??

I suggest go to dealer and order a new key rather than find somewhere else. At dealership, you will get one year warranty.

oft overlooked is your car insurance policy. mine included coverage for lost key
...up to $150. never had to use it though
