M272 Water Pump (request vdemon311)
#6
I am at 104K as of now. Something under the hood is making a ridiculous sound... kind of a whining/grinding noise as the RPMS go up. I had a coolant message pop up once about a 1000 mi ago.. then dissapear
. Seems like the water pump is on it's way out but I am not sure. I have already changed all the pulleys on this car, the power steering pump and tensioner. When I pull the belt off and let the car run... the noise is gone. So it seems like it is coming from something that is run by the belt. When I open the hood and have my brother slightly rev the gas I can almost pinpoint the noise coming from the water pump pulley. So I am thinking if I change out the water pump completely (rmeuro has a graft pump for sale for $117) I should be able to fix the issue. What do you guys think? thanks again for all the help ahead of time.

Our idler pulleys are inexpensively made. I replace them along with the belts every few years even if they are not making noise. then I throw the old good ones in the spares box in the trunk. Don't want to get stranded. Not a stock item even at stealerships.

2006 C230, 2006 BMW M3, bye bye C55:(
sorry to hear it went. My M272 has 122k on it and mine is still going strong.
I am, however, getting a high whine(think supercharger sound) when I accelerate and there is a delay in acceleration and at times, the car loses power and makes a deep exhaust tone and then picks up again. Very strange
