2003 C240 wagon
Towing capacity of C240
Wondering if i can fix a tow hitch to my '03 C240 wagon? What's the wagon's tow capacity anyways?
HitchWeb recommended this hitch that costs $262.72

How difficult would it take to install it? Bumper off?
Thanks for helping.

To be awesome lol
I would not recommend towing a heavy uhaul for long distances. If you want to tow a small light trailer thats one thing but almost all the uhauls will be too big. Around town is one thing but highway driving and mountains if applicable would not be something I would want to put my transmission, engine, brakes and so on through at least not for me with 167k on my trans which scares me lol
Have you ever towed a trailer before? if not please have someone show you how and know how to make turns and back it up
I have been towing big trailers since I got my drivers permit and have had to help people twice my age back trailers out of driveways and gas stations because they went and bought a huge boat or horse trailer or whatever and never learned to drive the dam thing. It can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing because you have to change the whole way you drive or you will hurt someone or something. Luckily any trailer a w203 could pull won't be that heavy or long so it is easier. I remember the first time I actually towed a trailer on the road it was 2 weeks after I got my permit so my dad and grandfather decided I should tow the car trailer with a 5k pound car on it up a mountain on Interstate 81 in southern VA or Tennessee. Oh and the tow car my aunts New suburban that I had never driven before
My dad was such a great teacher the day I got my permit I became his personal driver.

Once i took the bumper off and calculated the middle of the bumper i drilled 2 major hole into the rear bumper and rear suspension it wasnt to bad. The drilling was a pain, unless you have a 1 1/8'' drill bit its pointless to start.

I have had that hitch for over two years now and have never gotten around to installing it on my C280 4matic. I guess as long as I have another car with a hitch on it to tow my little trailer with, I will keep putting off dropping the bumper cover and drilling holes. I have read the intructions many times over and it doesn't appear too difficult but does look time consuming. What did you do for the wiring? Curt hitches tells me I will need a converter for that due to MB having the sensors to tell you if a bulb is out. Just tapping into the right wires with the wiring pigtail would cause enough of a voltage variation to trigger the light out message. Any words of wisdom or warnings for me? I do plan on installing it when the weather warms up this spring.

Only warning is the bumper is a ***** to drill into if you dont have a drill powerfull enough. Also i havent bothered to wire the lights i just use reflectors. The one pain i did have in removing the bumper is two screws that are inside the bumper they are hidden and youll need a extenders to reach the bolt.
