Check Engine Light came on

My Check engine light just came on yesterday. The code that was pulled up was P0171. My car is a 02 c230 with about 66k miles.

I recently (about a month ago) changed out all the spark plugs, the fuel filter, and the engine air filter. All parts used were OEM. Could one these changes that I have done cause the problem?

Also recently, the car doesnt start when I put the key in. Like it doesnt even crank or anything. I would have to remove the key a few times and put it back in a few times for the car to actually start.

Any ideas?

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1) Check all vacuum hoses & MAF hoses for leaks.

Check fuses 31,52 & 57 in the front SAM.

I hope you are not heading for a replacement EIS.

Good luck!

as for your car not starting on first crank...

i would suspect that is your crank position sensor going bad..

I hope its not the EIS either. The thing is I have to usually do a procedure like unlock the car, lock the car put the key in, keep he drivers door open and then the car would actually start. If I do not do something like this the car would basically not respond to the key at all. This is very recent in happening to my car.

Already did the recall about a month ago when I took the car in for an inspection. Without my knowledge. Just called today to schedule an appointment for the recall and they said it was already performed on my car.

I just found that this connection to the air intake was broken. So I am gonna need a new one.

That is all I found. Is there any other hose I should pay special attention to?

Has your car done with the camshaft solenoid and wiring harness recall free repair yet? See:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-recall-9.html

Dealers should be able to fix this for free. Also make sure that the thermostat problem is fixed too

By the way I have a related problem too. My wife's 2004 C230 recently the CEL light is on again, and after I used a $30 cheap OBDII scanner to reset it, about 3 weeks later, the light came back on.

The car only has about 60K miles. We just did the Service B (replaced the thermostat) in June this year, and in April we did the Camshaft Solenoids recall repair (I think the dealer also replaced the wiring harness for us as it was damaged by oil leak)... I checked with our repair history, I don't think we had replaced the o2 sensors and MAF sensor. The cheap code reader did NOT show any codes about what caused the check engine light to be turned on. Any idea or tips what might be wrong with this car? Would a better scanner be able to give me more information about what's wrong?? Many thanks!

Without a code we can't possibly help you.

Ya, the annoying part is finding where the vacuum leak is, which I have no idea how to find without spending hours looking at every hose.

LILBENZ230 and 97W202: I found the code is also P0171. My guess is that maybe the air filter need to be replaced, as I can not find any vacuum leak, and our MAF was just replaced few months ago.. Thoughts or comments??

this is an o2 sensor upstream....when they performed the recall they should have replaced both of o2 sensors...

they replaced my o2 sensors, fuel injector o rings, engine harnass, rear ecu, cam magnets/sensors ....

they still need to replace my cat since this recall killed it...running rich for a year will kill the cat

His post says that he drives a '02 C230, the M271 engine was not in that car, he has a M111 2.3
