Help!!! Can't find VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)
Hey everyone I reciently added aftermarked navigation to my 2003 c240 (w203) and in order for it to work properly a certain wire needs to be tappen into the vehicle's VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). I have tried looking everywhere. Behind the radio in the passenger kick panel, in the passenger door sills, and the rear right passenger's door sill....and i've had no luck. I even bribed a service tech when i took my car in for service to get me the schematics, which he did and that was no help because he gave me wrong ones!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The MB control units get their speed signals from CANBUS...no separate speedwire to be found other then at one of the connectors at the bottom of the underhood fusebox...

When the fuse board is removed you will see a plug marked 24, you will need to connect the speed pulse to Pin 3. To run the wire into the car remove and then foam rubber at the back of the box. The wire will then go thru that hole and appear be hide the steering wheel. Open the driver’s door and remove the access panel near the drivers side air vent. The wire will be in there. If you have the radio already removed if you look in the access panel you will see light from the radio hole, thread the wire thru to there. Connect this wire to Connector A pin 1 and Connector C2 pin 6 And all should work ok.
I hope it works fine, note I cannot be held responsible for any damage but that's how I had mine connected.

set your wipers to midposition (turn your wipers on, and then turn the key back to 0 when the wipers reach mid posiiton), open the hood. If you are standing in front of your car and you have the hood open, you see the engine. The drivers side is on your right side. Top right, you will see a cover, just remove that cover. you will now see 50 amp fuses, this is used for the abs/esp and stuff. take that unit out, take out the other unit below that (probably needs screwing), and at the back of one the units (i can not remember how many units need to be taken out) you take out, you will see socket 24, pin 3.. that is your speed signal!

okay, if you say you found it, feed the wire through to your radio, get in to the car, drive around and measure with an oscilloscope whether there is any signal on the cable... that is my suggestion!! Atleast you know then, that your connection is correct!!

i did what Rumman and other members (whose instructions I posted above) suggested and it was fine. (It was not working at the first time because the wire was not connected correctly).
so, I suggested you follow the procedure above and make sure the pin number is correct.

me, lol its old school. My grandpa used it for ham radio amplifiers he would build.
I am going to wire into my vss signal tommorow, under the location described in the above threads. I have the ESP , why wouldn't the wire be located in the dash?

Looking at the wiring diagrams and function descriptions in WIS, it seems to me that the plug 24 pin 3 connection is using the speed-sensitive power steering data and is valid only for vehicles manufactured through Jul-01. On newer vehicles, it looks from my read like it's integrated in the ESP control module and seems to be unused (which may explain why some people said they connected it and got nothing).
There are speed pulses from each of the 4 wheels, and they all go directly into the ESP control module. The only VSS output from the ESP control module is on the CAN bus. There's quite a bundle going into the module but they're clearly described: LF pins 3,4; RF pins 32,33; LR pins 6,7; RR pins 35,36. It looks to me like the front pulses are on pins 4 (LF) and 33 (RF).
I haven't tested this but that's what the wiring diagrams in WIS seem to say.
