exhaust sound
hi i am new to this forum but i have had my c230 coupe for about 4 months already and i love i just hate the way it sounds like when you floor it or just give it a little push to me it sounds like its a desiel car. well anyway i was wondering why the slk230 dosent sound like that if its the same engine? well since i love the car and i am planing on doing alot of performance upgrades to it i was wondering if a new exhaust would make it sound completly different like the rentech cat back or other mercedes brand tunners.

What about the car doesn't sound right? Is the objectionable noise coming from the engine or somewhere else? The stock exhaust system is supposed to be quiet.
When I get on mine, all I hear is the sweet sound of the engine and the supercharger.
I must admit, after a cold start the engine sounds pretty rough, but this grumbling noise leaves after a few moments.

Do you have the C-7 package? The exhaust sound is will be very diffrent with a Cat back system. This is a sound clip from mine. Its in traffic 1st and part of 2nd.

You will only need a rear muffler the C-7 has a straight pipe from the cat to the muffler. The non C-7 has a resonator befor the muffler.

really i never knew that the c-7 exhaust was different than the non c-7 besides the exhasut tip. so you are saying i do not need the cat back i just need a muffler. can i get a cat back or no? and if i should just get a muffler will that make it sound totally differnt? and will i get any power from it. what brand mufflers would you suggest for my car.

You can still pay for a cat back system but the gain may not be any thing. Th muffler alone will change the exhaust note, as far as power gains they aren't that much. You may gain 2-3 HP with a performance muffler. I would reccomand the Renntech exhaust, but many people on this board think that they are over priced. I'm not up on other systems out there. I'm sure there are some though.

My digital camera will record sound or movie clips. I just did a short clip with the lens cap on so no pic (smaller file) just sound put ti on the server and linked to it.

blackC230, our SLK230 sounds actually louder than my Coupe. It's an auto. I know what you mean the sound is really ugly, but with a minor exhaust upgrade that should be cured. I'm into the -if the car sounds cool, then go with it- like VR6's and Alfa V6's-awesome sounds-C230-EEEEEKKKKKK.
