May be you are not inserting the nozzle all the way in. If the nozzle is inserted all the way, gas shouldn't be spilling all the way out.

I always fill my car with the lowest setting selected and never, ever top off. That said, something is definitely wrong with your car. Even if I set it to the highest, it cuts off before it overflows. Always has.

Someone will chime in with the real answer before too long.

Sammy, ill try to find a gas station with gas handle lowest setting. I know the gas stations here you only have 1 setting. I never tap it .

Those guys aren't careful when inserting the nozzle; in the process they make marks on the paint in the shape of half-nozzle. They let the gas drips fall on the car body. If you don't wipe those off right-a-way, they leave stains. Whenever someone else fills my car, I stand right next to that person to make sure they don't do the above...

I go to the same wawa everytime I need gas, the guys there know me and take care of it. it's not that they don't know how it's supposed to be done, it's that most customers don't care. they know I care and behave accordingly. I don't even have to tell them not to top it off any more. they already know.

It sounds as though one of you breathers is blocked or your carbon canister is saturated.

Do you get any EECS codes on the car. EECS = Evaporative Emissions Control System.

2006 C230, 2006 BMW M3, bye bye C55:(
Your car has a 16.9 gallon tank.

Just fill it up to that(usually 14.39 is when my car cuts it off).

It is a 16.4 gallon tank and you will probably never see that much go in. The most I've ever been able to get in was 15.9 gallons and that was after driving with "Distance = 0" for a ways.

So your dash shows a count down of an estimated Distance before it will shut off / out of gas? How do I get into that setting?

I seen this in Volvos and if this has it, it would be cool.

maybe from fuel level sensor is faulty or your fuel filter is clogging

go to autozone and buy a bottle of techron concentrated plus fuel cleaner its the only one that works...even mercedes approve of it

I discovered my problem was my desire for greater fuel efficiency on my MB. So, I installed a new air filtration system, which saved 40% on fuel. Then I installed a magnetic fuel alignment system on my fuel line, which saved another 40%. Finally, I installed a replacement exhaust system, which saved yet another 40% on fuel.

Unfortunately, after all of the modifications and all of the savings, my fuel tank kept running over while I was driving down the street.

Seriously, when I fill my fuel tank, I fill it very slowly. This reduces the possibility of the fuel surging back out of the filler pipe. I do not ever use the lock on the fuel nozzle.

Your car has a range feature. Go to the fuel economy info screen and press the up or down arrow until the "Distance" field is displayed.

Note, the 2007 cars were changed to simply say "Reserve Fuel Level" at a certain point where the 2005 cars count all the way down to 0 miles remaining. I'm not sure which one of these characteristics the 2006 has.
