180,000 miles an still going!

Good morning too all . Just hit 180,xxx this morning on the way to work! Man this is the highest mile car I have ever own in my whole adult life, after 21! Man beside the noises of front suspension an weird idling ever now an then an of course the dated 03 interior. My C230 is still going strong. I sold an 98 Lexus ES300 last year that had about 160,xxx on it. I didnt feel as solid as the Benz an the leather look an feel like high mileage car! An the constant front end engine oil leak it had! It was good but not as good as the Benz in overall feel I think. I had an 99 VW Passat 1.8t before I trade it in on the C230 in 05. At the time the VW had about 123,xxx on her. I bought her new an had the most problems out of any car I ever had! She was fun once I chipped the ecu an big wheels but not reliable at all. I replace turbo at 75,xxx the water pump at 20,xxx,the radio at 10,xxx the whole front suspension. The oil pump the oil cooler an the list goes on and on. Now VW covered alot of this but it was still an hassle to deal with. In closing everyone enjoy their W203. May be old, slow, but damn they just keep going! Lol

My 05 will be seven years old in January and have somewhere around 127,000 by then. In the grand scheme of things this isn't that old. I sometimes feel like it is, though. Well, until last night when I drove a friend's 1995 Integra.. holy crap it felt ancient in comparison.

Wow I just changed my plugs last year. But I haven't changed the trans and rear diff fluid yet. I'm kind of scared thinking that I my have problems afterward.

Thats a myth. We covered that already as in I ran it past the oil god Glyn.
Good clean fluids are better than old.
Just turned 181K and my baby turns 10 this month. (Mfg. date 12/2001)

It can be false economy keeping plugs in longer than they should be, you basically gone almost 2x the service life they should be in. You might find it hard to remove and could risk snapping them off with the other half left in the head which will be a very expensive and possibly difficult repair.

When I took mine out at 102k km the gap was significantly larger then spec. Plugs should be changed by 130k km ~ 80k mi or 5 years. 2 plugs came out okay, 1 needed a bit of persuasion and 1 needed brute force that I was worried that it was either going to break or strip the threads in the head

I think the service life is a bit longer in your engine at 160K km or 5 years and you need 12 plugs

I just replaced the whole supercharger.
It wasn't bad mind you, but I spoke with an Eaton rep who told me the
expected life is 100K and thats also the life of the oil.
It could last longer, who knows, was kinda what he said.
But if it breaks down and you are forced to pay a mechanic, unexpectly, not prepared, ooooo...
it's gonna be about 2-3 grand to replace that.

Better to just plan for it for long life. On an older car, you don't want all these little things
hitting you all the time, better to take care of them in advance.
So at the point you need to replace the oil, just as well have it gone through, rebuilt.
I couldn't get the allen head off the front the drain plug even with it off the car.
I was gonna do the rebuild but
I found a brand new new supercharger on ebay for $600 and sold the old one for 250.
To me it's worth not having to be driving down the road and have it fail,
and possibly face some huge unexpected expense.

So, I replaced it at 120K miles.
You can have it fully rebuilt for about $350, ported for just a tad more.
Thats new rotors, new oil, seals, bearings, and the rubber thing on the inside that goes bad.
Check out magnacharger I think it is. They do rebuilds.
Stiegemeier also.

I just changed my trans fluid a few months ago. Was told you should change it about every 60k miles. That was the first time I've changed it and also need to change my fuel filter as well.

2002 C320 Wagon
Just hit 161k w/2 teen sons showing no mercy on the C320. Had to replace A/C compressor, condensor, alternator and some cam position sensor this summer. Not cheap! Other than that, its been running well and still fun to drive. On the highway it can get 30 mpg w/cruise on. I took Glynn's advice and had the transmission fluid and rear differential fluid changed around 150k My Indy says it should last to at least 200k.

Ready for the next 500K kilometers. People don't realise just how many of these cars make 1 million Km's in Africa & Asia - well maintained of course!
