i am ready to buy, please help?

Hi all, i am a newbie here. Pls help. I am checking the c230 coupe. The co-worker told me the maint. for these vehicles are very expensive. Is it true? Can we do some regular maint ourselves-such as oil change or plugs? Also, how much did you pay for the extended warranty @ Sacramento MB dealer(s)? Worth it or not. Did you guys negotiate the MSRP as my friend got the C-sedan and the guy said MSRP plus tax out the door? Any comments!! Thanks.

Scheduled maintenance is included with new vehicle purchase for 4yr/50k miles. Like any other car on the market, after that it isn't cheap. I paid MSRP -$500 for my C sedan. I'd wait a year and get the extended warranty at that point when you've decided if you want to keep the car for 4+years. Just a thought.

There are some big differences between the 02 and 03 kompressor motors. Like 1/2 a liter and a bunch of mods that you can not do on the 03.

Depending on your purposes and intentions for the car, I would seriously consider the used 02.

The M274 motor in the 03 kompressor motors is brand new, aluminum and only 1.8 liters. Not 2.3 and cast iron like the 02 M111 motor.

Aside from that they are the same less options. Think about it... I think the 03 has more real leather in the leather option too, and the option of bi-xeons. Make sure you get the C7.

I ordered my Coupe to my specifications, so I paid MSRP.

Your co-worker, the one who told you about the expensive maint., does he or she drives a Mercedes (current model)? There are always people who will tell you something like that, except that they've never even owned one in their life. Just wondering if they tell people that just to pretend they know something or if they are just jealous and don't want anyone to have what they can't have. I bet if you asked them, they are going to say their friend or their uncle has one or some BS like that.

Thanks for the quick response!!! Do you know the reason why MB replace the 2.3 by the 1.8? Sounds interesting! What if i buy a used one, does it mean that i will loose all the free scheduled maintenance? I love working on cars, and this puppy won't be the exception! Any comments! Cheers!

Maint. included with any car for 4rd/50k, regardless of new/used. If you can find StarMark, go for that and get an extended warranty. MB has a great preowned program.

MB C230K
Right now you should get 4-5k below MSRP as I believe there is a special factory to dealer incentive going on by the MB factory.

Also, you can buy the MB USA extended service up to 12 months after you purchase the car. There is a dealer in California somewhere that sells it way below the MSRP - do a search on the forum and I am sure it will come up.

You had mentioned that a dealer in CA sells it way below MSRP, are you referring to the automobile itself or the extended warranty? Have you purchased extended warranty from that dealer? I'll try to do a search on that.

Dunno for sure, but have read that it was to meet lower emissions standards or something. Lose lotsa low-end torque, gain ~1 mpg + cleaner emissions... ?
