MAF insert?

MAF insert?
Anyone tried one of the MAF inserts from this outfit yet? It's quite a bit cheaper than buying the whole housing. Looks like it works on 230 '97-'00 and all V6 - V8's with twin plugs. Mine's starting to require cleaning more often and I noticed on my last long trip I was down about 1.2 mpg. Not bad part life at 176K miles!

Are you running K&N air filter? Is there a good seal around the filter edge? Is the coupling of the filter to the housing where the MAF sensor sits tight? Any way dirt or oil can get in there will make the sensor unhappy. Everything past the filter should be white glove clean to prevent surface contamination of the MAF glass encapsulated sensor.

Just don't buy the ebay inserts. I heard those are fake knockoffs.
Although in this thread they mention that bosch doesn't sell just the inserts I think GermanStar should be legit like that member mentioned.

I didn't clean mine the first time until past 100K miles. I think it all depends on what kind of driving you do. Some people on this forum report replacing theirs several times by 100K. I wouldn't replace one until the cleaning intervals get too close.....like10k miles...or it fails and cleaning won't bring it back. The 4 bangers seem to go through them quicker as well as those with the oiled air filters.

I've changed out plugs, air filter and oil at the same time about 3 months ago, and I'm still only getting about 23mpg average. 117k miles on the car, I'm pretty sure my MAF has not been changed out or cleaned? 
Yes, I drive rather fast (average 75mp highway every day), but would think for a 4 cyl, I should get better than that.
Wonder if I should try that MAF insert too?
