Depends on what you say "best" is. I'm talking hp/lb, you're probably talking refinement. If I want refinement, I'll get a Lexus, and fall asleep while driving.

Gotcha, you're right. My bad. I do wonder what the respective hp/lb rates would be in comparison.
But really, the M111 is worse than the M271? Please put down the crack pipe.

My only experience with the M111 was in a W202. It didn't seem all that different than the M271, so I guess it really is a wash in those two. Neither are the best picks.. the best pick would be the C55 as Eric pointed out engine wise. But I'd still take a C350 6MT over it.

It has gotten noticeably worse since going to work for a dealer. If that's what working for a dealer does to people it explains why 99% of the collective experiences with dealers on this forum are strongly negative.

Very limited. Headers, throttle body, resonator delete, ECU tune etc - expensive for very little gain. If you want more power buy a C32 with a blower.

IMO, tough to say what was a better engine, the M111 or the M271. M111 responded better to mods but was less refined to the point that some said it sounded like a lawnmower. Not very Mercedes like. haha. M272 3.5L was a great engine, the only thing is that it really didn't match up with it's peers very well.
