Hey guys Im trying to figure out options on how to hardwire a dash camera. All of them use a cigarette light to power but what are my ways around it? Can I hard wire it into the rear view mirror somehow? I would like a clean look? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I wanted to do the same thing with my radar detector. A service tech at the dealer said he would not recommend trying to tap into the wiring in the rearview mirror. He actually pulled my mirror down to show me why, all the wiring is ribbons, very expensive ribbons. Not wires like you could easily tap into. He recommended just trying to hide the wire in the roof pillar like I did on my previous cars.

Get a voltage read and find a 12v constant by the fuse box. If not there you can run it to the power wire on the radio.

Tapping into the wires for the sunroof button or motor (near the dome lights) might be a good option since they're have power when key is in ignition.

BTW, which dash cam did you get? Does it automatically turn on and off based on cigarette lighter socket getting power?

the dash cam i cam getting automatically starts recording when recieving power.

The best thing, I think, for these types of things is to pick up the front housing for PTS and use that location. That is the slickest mod for radar - and I am sure you could mount your camera there...
