To the drivers with lowered cars: Does your car shake, shimmy or ride really rough?

Hey guys

I'm running H&R street performance coilovers along with 19" Mandrus wheels which are hub-centric. Today I decided to lower the car since spring is on the way and I couldn't stand my winter-mode look anymore. I lowered the fronts all the way and the back almost all the way. I also stuck on 5mm H&R Spacers on the front so I could clear the coilover. The moment I took the car for a drive I could feel a little bit of shimmying in the steering wheel and seat. I took it back to the shop and they said it was probably because the car is lowered and rides rougher. Later I drove it on the highway at 50-70 miles per hour the car was shaking a lot.. I didn't get an alignment today because they say it wasn't needed. (I not sure if this is true but they said that the car would pull if i needed one and the car doesn't pull.)

I personally don't think the shaking is normal even for a lowered car on 19" wheels. I had a lot of suspension issues but I've tackled each ones of the problems head on by replacing most of the suspension components. Everything to do with my suspension is basically brand new because I've replaced them all during the months of November/December last year.

Just a quick note: My winter mode was basically, 19" wheels with a one finger-gap all around with no spacers. The wheels were balanced, the alignment was done, and thus, the car ran perfectly smooth. This shimmying/shaking started after I lowered the car. Would it really make that big of a difference?

So my question is, for the people that are REALLY lowered out there. Does your car/steering wheel shake? Do you feel your body shaking(a little bit)? I hate driving my car because of the shaking/shimmying.

I'm having a problem with photobucket right now so none of my pictures are working, but I'll try to upload some pics as soon as I can...

you already answered your own question by the fourth sentence.

5mm H&R spacers are NOT hubcentric. steering wheel shakes left/right is caused by the front wheels balance being off.

Are you sure frank? Because on H&R site it says that their 5mm spacers are huncentric for our cars. In the notes for product 1055665 it says that they are hubcentric flat disc spacers and that all the Track + spacers are hubcentric.

Your steering wheel should not shake that much, if it is, your front wheels are not balanced properly.

Its also depends on the road. In my town i sometimes feel that same shaking you are but its because the roads just suck. What size is your sidewall? The smaller your sidewall the harsher the ride.

Really? Wow I've always thought that H&R spacers were hub centric, including the 5mm ones. I guess I'll remove them and see if there is any difference.

I'm using Continental DWS. 225/35/19 in the front and 265/30/19 in the rear. I've always thought they were kind of beefy too!

You were right Frank. I knew something was fishy when i first saw the spacers.. I was wondering why the little lips were missing. This is so disappointing.

what i mean is that it doesn't have a hubcentric ring. 5mm once you put it on the front hub, the centerbore hub does not have enough lip to make proper contact with the rim. therefore, rims are not perfectly centered and vibrates.
