C280 O2 sensor replacement ??

Need help in replacing the upstream O2 sensors on my 07-C280. Searched for DIY but they all are on a C230. I checked the location yesterday and that thing is seriously in a cramped location and also it is a 6 wire sensor. If any one of you peeps have done it yourself then please advise on how to get that thing removed and replaced. I need help is how to unscrew that thing and what special tool might be required....is there a trick on how to get to it??? and where can I buy a set for a resonable price?

Every web site I chcek that thing is like close to $300 for 2 sensors....is it really that expensive??
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Javvy

Javvy, you may want to buy this socket for O2 sensor replacement. Harborfreight sells them...

http://www.harborfreight.com/3-8-eig...nch-97177.html

You may need to soak the O2 sensor threads with penetrant couple of hours of ahead of time. That will help in getting that sensor out. Yes, those sensors are kind of expensive. Although there are generic ones are available, you will need to cut/solder the wires to fit in to the connector. Why mess around with generic ones. Pay up little more and get the OEM sensors.

Javvy - You need that crows foot wrench - without it & BFH you are lost. I recommend the genuine heated sensors & no generics. They are nothing but trouble on a Benz.

Can't you get decent prices from RMeuropean, Parts.com etc?

I tried to help a friend change his on his 06 230 M272. I gave up and told him to take it in for them to do, (I am very mechanically inclined and do all the work on my car and restore old British roadsters as a hobby - I know what I am doing) I had crows feet etc but this stumped me. Even if I got it out I was not sure how I would thread in the new one as there is NO SPACE.

Major brain fart with the engineers designing the serviceablity and access in this part

BFH = Big F'ing Hammer

You need to remove the bottom plate to access.

Yep! some find it easier from the bottom with the M272 quadcam heads - wider than M112 engine.

Whatever works for you. Bars, hammers etc. You need leverage because the damn things seize in.

As you can see my baby has seen a few hammers.

quick question, what should be length of the harness on the sensor? and what minimium legth of the harness would work?? I found this bosch sansor on amazone with the correct plug and all and it said that it is upstream sensor for my car, but the harness length is just ~12"....the cost was just $47/per sensor (was on sale)....I have bought them but am skeptical that the legnth of the harness might be too small...even if I don't route it the OEM path and just route it straight from the sensor install location to the plug point......makeing sure that the harness does not come close to anything hot or obstructive.....

any input on this will help.
