S/C Removal

I am going to remove the SuperCharger this weekend... I'm doing this for fun? ...no, preventative maintenance.

Looking for input on what else I can do while I'm in there...
I'd like to:
r/r the driver side engine mount.
r/r the tensioner pulley assembly.
r/r drive belt.
r/r squeeky pulley.
r/r valve cover gasket.
remove silencer from S/C.
My questions are:

What gaskets do I need once I remove the S/C?
What else should I replace... hoses? gaskets? etc...
Should I change out the fluid in the S/C?

Any input would be greatly appreciated... what gotchas to look out for, what not to do... you know!

Good to see you're doing it preventively. Though I did mine for the same reason at 120K, I may not be much help since my car has a different engine, but if you're still on the original alternator, I'd either replace it or drop it off at a local auto electric shop for new brushes at a minimum.
I put new belts in at that time and pulled the SC muffler and I had a leaking exhaust gasket.
I'd already replaced tensioners and some pullies. My battery was down to around 400 CCA (it's supposed to be like 900)so that got replaced too right around that time.
Are you sending the SC out for a rebuild?

I suppose I should think about new belts again.

What you really need is an EPC account. It's free though they'll ask for a credit card # but not charge you.
You can look at the diagrams, and see exactly what you need and place an order online for the best prices.

I have removed the airbox, was working on the intake manifold, and @#$^@#$^* it! I'm done... From what I can tell, in order to proceed, I must remove the fuel rails... I mean seriously... what stupid #($W(#*$P$ engineer came up with this design... All I want to do is remove the S/C.. why should it be this hard!!!!!!

WTF why would you do this? There are numerous M271s on this forum with high mileage and no supercharger issues. Fixing things that are not broken always seems to lead to more things to fix that end up broken.

There is no need to tamper with a working supercharger. I don't see anything on your list that you couldn't replace while leaving the S/C in place.

But according to documentation, to swap out my tensioner pully and to remove the driver's side engine mount, the S/C has to come off. I can't for the life of me figure out how to replace either of those items without having to remove it.

I can NOT get to that damn top bolt on the engine mount... If someone would send me the correct shorty wrench... I'd pay for shipping, handling and a "rental" fee... otherwise I'm lost.

And my tensioner is making so much noise... it is going to have to be replaced ASAP.

If someone can point me in the right direction to replace those two items without taking the S/C off, I'd be much obliged, and probably a case of beer would end up on your doorstep... for real.

I halted (if you see other threads I've created very recently) the removal... and will most likely call to have an Indy this week... BUT, again, if someone can lend a hand... could save me a chunk of change!

The driver's side engine mount in my car was replaced in 30 minutes by my indy without removal of the S/C. The dealer probably does remove the S/C to replace the engine mounts. Hell they probably remove the taillights, anything to charge more labor.

I was quoted to replace the belt tensioner pulley by the same indy and he made no mention of S/C removal though to be fair I have not had to have that done yet. Although if you are not experiencing problems with the tensioner, why bother? My M271 has done over 140,000 on the stock one.

All very good points... I'm trying to find an indy here in St. Louis... I found one, but I'm surprised and bummed, that he won't let me bring in my parts for him to install.

The tensioner assembly is making so much noise with the a/c on... I'm embarrassed to stop at a stop light, sign or drive up... I usually just put the car in N... that stops the noise...

I've read that just changing out the pulley is not enough... you need to change out the tensioner. Thanks for all the replies Lilbenz!!!

The tensioner is really the only thing I've had to do to my car. I've got 183K miles and it still runs great. I wouldn't mess with taking off the S/C... Save your money and time for what is broke.

Be very careful with the bolts on the tensioner don't ask but you don't want to have to drill those bolts out
