OIL AND OIL FILTER?

OIL AND OIL FILTER?
My mechanic wants me to bring 5-30 synthetic oil for my 2007 c230.
I've been reading up and people only mention 0-40.
What's better for my car? I live in the SF bay area.
Also best oil filter?

Use Mobil 1 0W-40 like every thread on it recommends. It is not the only oil that meets approval but it is one of the easiest to find.
You'll need to get a fleece filter.

I would recommend using the oil that is recommended for your car. What does your owners manual state? Personally, I would use Mobil One 0W-40, and for filters either Mann or Hengst. But to be safe, get it from Mercedes.

Mercedes-Benz Stealerships have gone back to using Mobil 1 5W40 instead of Mobil 1 0W40

Easy to verify,..... just go to any Mercedes-Benz Stealership and inquire which oil they're now using,...... Mobil 1 ESP 5W40 is what they're using for oil changes now,... NOT Mobil 1 0W40

No I mean you were correct in your statement about the dealers.
The dealers themselves are incorrect in their usage. They are using 229.51 spec (diesel only) in gasoline cars calling for 229.5. The two are not cross compatible. I would not have it done at the dealership unless you can verify they use the appropriate approved oil.
