Replacing the headlights on my C230K Coupe

I have had the car for about two weeks. Last weekend I slaved for several hours trying to clean up the oxidation off the covers using the 3M and Meguiar's kits. They do look better, but not as great as I was hoping. I really don't want to fork out big $$ for OEM replacements as I assume I will have the same oxidation issues down the road. A few questions for you seasoned owners:

1) Is it hard to replace the headlight assembly? I'm not a newbie to cars, but I don't consider myself an ultimate gear head either.
2) If you have replaced your headlights, what did you go with? What were the costs?
3) I have been looking at a few kits on eBay and this one looks to be pretty good, any thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-02-05-ME...eeecc7&vxp=mtr

You might have the OEM frosted headlights. You should be able to buy depo headlights on Ebay for around 200. Buy an hid kit from our venders on here for like $35. Use the search button and you'll find a diy since this has been many times. Its just 4 bolts holding the headlight I'm place.

The coupe DEPOs are all around $400 there not nearly as cheep as the sedan ones. The install is pretty simple and as Phister said there is a DIY on the forum. I have the same headlights as the ones in your link (same seller too) You will need error cancelers for them or have it set to Xeon=Present.

one should be sure to mention that the Depo projectors are not quality items
and have poor focus. their R&D was far below that of the factory units.
the beam projected is uneven and segmented. if you opt to replace the halogen
with a rebased HID bulb/kit, you'll have a brighter, uneven segmented beam.
if you're not troubled by this trade-off in quality, then you should be able to
proceed without any false expectations.

for 400 i'd save up and get the OEM bix for the coupe. Or just do a retrofit and find new headlight lenses. They sell them for lesss than 200 I believe.

Not sure when you last priced out OEM BIX for a coupe, but they're much more than that. Hell, the clear projectors are around $450 or so without BIX (which is the setup I'd recommend, if you can find any).

When I was shopping for BIX for my coupe the best price I saw for a OEM set was a used one on ebay for around $1,200 and new was like $1,350 EACH side. I couldn't find any Clear projectors at all. For a while the DEPOs weren't even available for coupes. There are a few coupe owners on here that have the DEPOs with no issues.

Thanks all for the replies. I may take another stab at sanding and polishing first.

Last time I checked the classifieds a member bought a set for around 800. Lol I wasn't saying they're 400 for OEM bix, I was just suggesting that if he's going to spend that much, he might as well save up more to get the bix.

As for using those kits, I suggest not using them and do it the way most shops do. Get a high grit wet sand paper, like 1500, wet sand the head lights, then use a good rubbing compound, I use 3M products, and use a buff/polisher and buff away. After that use a polish to clear it up then use a high glaze to put a protective cost on. Some go an extra step and wax or put a layer of clear on it.
