Why did Mercedes do this?

In my coupe, the driver's side mat has plastic "buttons" that hold the mat perfectly in place. The passenger side does not and the mat slides around when people get in and out of the car. Why did they not make both sides with the "buttons"?

I was thinking about ordering mats from a right hand drive car, but i would need to change the carpet to add the connector piece on the passenger side...

Two reasons:

1. A mat sliding around on the drivers side can bunch up under the pedals creating a hazardous situation. A sliding passenger side mat is just a nuisance.

2. All those little buttons cost extra money. Mercedes made an extra $0.53 profit per unit by not giving them to you.

1. I understood why the did it for the driver. I wasn't sure why they left it out for the passenger.

2. Makes sense...keeps them in the green I guess.

My C240 sedan has plastic clips in the carpet for holding onto buttons or holes in a floormat. My floormats have no corresponding holes or button. It doesn't matter though, because the bottoms of the floormats have this real grippy material that keeps them from sliding around at all. As a matter of fact, if I don't place them just right when I put them back in after cleaning, they are very hard to slide into the right position.

No matter - they are not factory installed in any case. My Sport Sedan came with matts with no holes. Male counterparts to the buttons were in the floor on the driver's side but not passenger.

I had to get the parts guy to give me some of the female button parts and only then did I have the set.

I think that the dealer is the ones that puts those on. You want some, harass them and tell them you didn't get them and were supposed to.

So you can add the female parts afterwards?
I might order a set of RHD mats then...

i have weathertech all-weather floor mats. they're real heavy but they still move toward the front of the car slightly, (that's if i didn't pull them back down every few days). i wish they had the little buttons put in them so they would stay put, maybe i could rig up some way to take the buttons outta the stock mats and put them in my weathertech mats. hmmmmm

thanks for listening to my babble.

Yeah I've noticed the thing with the passenger mat too. Annoys me a lot. I guess I'll just have to resort to duct taping the mat down!! That'd be classy huh? :p

I have OEM all-weather mats in my car and they slide forward and bunch under the clutch. It's very annoying. I'm not sure of the teeth on the back are not strong enough of if the carpet is not deep enough for them to grip. Either way, I pull the mat back each time I enter the car. I've considered using velcro or smoething to hold them in place.
