NASA AutoX- June 15 (hehehehe)
I've said this before, and I will say it again, if you haven't autoX'd, you don't know what you are missing! Love your car, autoX it.
Ok, today I felt a lot more comfortable, my car and myself, the course was not as good as last week though, but still very nice, shorter, a little faster, more saloms.
3rd fasted raw time in my class! I "knicked" a cone, and someone called it. It was contested as people were saying I didn't move it out of the box. Well, the rules are, the jack'a'moe who made the call, made the call. So, I placed in 6th when I should've been 3rd. This is with street tires!
Out of over a hundred drivers, I was one of ~twenty five that got into the 30's. I hit a 39.909. The instructors were really impressed. They kept asking if I was sure this was my second event!
So am I completely hyped, everyone is saying I am doing incredible well considering how heavy the car is and that this is my second event.
I know this sounds stupid, but I actually ran with only the rear H&R springs installed. A friend who races with SCCA suggested I try it with the characteristics of the car. It worked, the car hooked up, turned in, and resisted breaking loose way better then OE at all four corners. I am going to run H&Rs at 4 corners and see what's up.
As usual, pics to come!
Ut oh- The Eibach Sways have arrived. I plan on baselining these against the Evosports and doing a write up, things that will be considered are going to be street and autox, comfort, performance

The weight thing is messed up. The addition weight from the sunroof is a big thing. I already remove EVERYTHING from the trunk, floor mats, cd cartridge, and I lower my seats all the way down to keep that weight, and my weight as low as possible.
I was thinking though... Maybe, just maybe there is a cool way to replace the sunroof with a CF panel??? That'd be sweet
Lighter wheel and tire combo will help, removing some of the plastic from the underside of the car, and driver and passenger racing seats as well.
Depending on how serious I get, (getting serious fast), I would just be removing weight and replacing it with the weight of a cage unless I gut the interior from behind the front seats back.
I'll have the first two seater coupe!
I did get a couple action shots this time though. Will post soon as possible.

Woohoo - cool stuff! Sergei (blue Subie WRX Wagon) just got back and told me all about it. I'm soo proud of the C-Coupe!
You'll end up with a stripped down race-hog that kicks everyone's booty.
Lookin' forward to the pics!

Hey!
Yeah, Sergi did really well too! This event was a lot of fun. Sergi is one cool cat. The coupe really, really did well.
We NEED more MB's at these events, I am getting all the attention They said very rarely they see AMGs there, but they weren't even sure where to class my coupe.

How many sedans are in those things? We've got a stock 2003 230, and not much time (or money) to do mods.
* if anyone found out you knew me, that is.

It was nice autoX today, fast and quiet smooth.
I really was impressed with the couple and your driving skills as well as a rest of car racing enthusiasts.
This is a first Mercedes coupe I see at such events.
So it’s so rear that maybe Mercedes of USA will sponsore you as a way to promote Mercedes racing heritage.

Colombus-
Tommy had the CRX there but he and Sal installed some brake components. Sal and I ran, Tommy didn't.
Tommy better run the coupe now!
jpb-
No one would be embarassed. These events are for fun. It is for you to test your car and yourself, and improve if you want to. You hook up with an instructor, do for rides with them, watch their lines and actions, then try to mimic them, if you want. You hang out, have fun, meet other enthusists!
There were no sedans at any of the events I have been to this summer. There was someone with an old 190E at the May 15th event though.
I am literally unemployed and working side jobs. Mods are not that expensive if you roll your pennies
Sergi!
It was nice wasn't it? Great weather, great cars, nice course. Thank you for the compliments. You and your wagon did very well. I am going to bring you a vinyl soccer ball decal at the next run.
Sponsorship, I wish! What's the next event you plan on running?

Here are the preliminary results...
I think I was miss classed? They said no because of the power/weight ratio. The Kompressor is +5 points, the springs are +2. I can get 8 more points worth of mods before I am placed up a class in their schema.

And some pics! I didn't spot Sergi's Sub but there are two uneventful pics of the coupe. Page 6, page 7.

G'night friends

I am thinking to go to Nassau Coliseum for SCCA event on July 27th and also (maybe) July 18 or August 30 HPDE at Pocono. But I heard that Watkins Glenn or Lime Rock much better than Pocono at least surface wise.

Out Of Control!!
Columbus, I don't think that I will autox the ccoupe. I'd end up babying it way too much, and losing to clowns like nuk.
Besides, I've spent too much on the crx to allow it to sit there gathering dust. Brakes will go in this weekend - 11" Corrado rotors & 4 piston Wilwoods vs. 9.5" OEM ones. Should make a huge difference in braking. (it better!)
The closest event that I can see is on July 12th at Englishtown. Events are really down this year, which sucks. Don't forget about the Evolution autox school at Nassau August 23/24 - you learn a ton of stuff in a couple of hours. I think that I did about 15 runs the day that I did it.

Haha-
Tommy that wasn't very nice. I'm a punk not a clown.
Anyway, Tommy's CRX is very nice. It is appearent a lot of love, time, and effort has gone into it. However, since we own the new Corrado*, maybe it is time to retire the CRX?
It is just really nice to have everyone expecting you to just drive around the course knocking over cones and slowing up the guy behind you, and putting out good times instead. I'd did well with the coupe bone stock, even better by comparison with my strange suspension set up.
Anyway, the next event we are at we'll need to swap cars to see who the punk is . You don't have to worry about babying my baby, she gets all the love she needs in paint chips and scratches down to the plastic on the side skirts from going through that chican sideways at the M Club event... Time to go pick up my pics.
I'll post them when I get back.
* j/k, I don't think it looks or *drives* like a Corrado.

Ah *****-
Ok, the printer ran out of ink so the kid behind the CVS photo counter gave me the images on disk for now. They suck, they are 72dpi, and some are insanely blurry. I was able to look at the shot out pics, they are fine so I will scan those tomorrow at a better resolution. Here's some crap for now.

I think I know why every pic so crappy with this camera, there is a delay from when you push the button to when pic is taken, and this guy took all the pics from the same place.

These pics are OK for now, hoping you'll be able to post the real ones soon.
When'll you replace your tires? Did this one kill them?
[edit -- Nuk, you answered my tire question before this got posted.]

This thing is insane... The guy driving it has crazy skills too!
This guy did a complete 360 in the middle of the track, stayed on course, and still got a freakin 38 or 39.

This one was kinda cool...
Appearently a few guys went in on a beater specifically for AutoX.
Edit- It is hard to tell but it has no front bumper, and about 4 or 5 colors. They drove it very well though.
