what double din head units will fit my car
Just fitted a nice single JVC in the car and its great with the Bluetooth, usb etc but it does look out of place and I see loads of standard merc double din size cd players on ebay at good prices, but unsure on the right one to fit my pre face lift dash? As I see the head units are longer in the face lift models

You didn't ask for opinions on different units but in case you're interested, when I was researching HUs to choose one for my '05 C230, I mainly looked at:
Jensen VM9424
Kenwood Excelon DNX6960
JVC KW-NT1
JVC KW-KN3HDT
JVC KW-KN30HD
JVC KW-NT50HDT
Pioneer AVIC X930BT
Pioneer AVIC X940BT
Pioneer XVIC Z130BT
Besides good sound, I was interested in Bluetooth, Nav, backup camera, and possibly use with an iPod or USB. I wanted the USB and iPod interfaces to be in the back of the HU.
I finally settled on the X940BT and I'm happy with it. I think if I hadn't gotten that, I would have gotten the DNX6960.
Good luck and let us know what you end up getting!

Like Peydidy says,.... ALL Double DIN headunit will fit.
However, there will be a gap between the Double DIN and your centre console,... for which you will need an Double DIN adapter plate,.... search,.... there's a decent thread on Avic D3 here,... search, lots of info there,.... the D3 is a bit dated now, but info still applies to more recent Pioneer Avic,... with regards to Double DIN adapter plate and steering wheel controls,.... search

My car isn't the face lift dash. So if I buy a 2003 merc head unit that fits the face lift models it will be to big for my dash

Thats not how it works.
Yes the facelifted headunit and pre facelifted headunits are different sizes. Neither of which are "double din" They are just there own stock sizing. As Sunny said, there is a gap. You don't directly put in the aftermarket headunit into a stock slot, you get a mounting kit which fills the gap and makes it so any double din fit. Again ALL double din headunits are the same exact size, ANY double din headunit will fit with the correct mounting kit. Any double din headunit you find will be 4x7", now the mounting kit that you buy for your car will make it so that you have a 4x7" opening instead of the larger stock opening. You will also need a wiring harness and antenna adapter if you want to keep the radio function active.
It has been covered a billion times on this forum and also all over the internet, simple searches will do you wonders. Just typed into google "double din headunit explanation" or just search the forum for it and many articles and threads will come up going into deeper explanation.
Good luck

Think I haven't wrote it the write way. I know about the fascia and wiring kit. I have done all that but like I said in first post it looks out of place and was looking for a standard merc double din size head unit that would slip straight into the original hole minus the hole below the single din slot

Thats out of a facelifted w203, you would need to pretty much facelift your hole center council to get that to fit. It has been done, but it is extremely costly. I met a forum member (his user name is "OverDrive") He facelifted his prefacelifted center councle on his C32 and he was very pleased with the result. He made a DIY on it also, Hers the link to it:

My dash has the yellow carbon limited edition dash that I want to keep. Did they do a head unit like the one I put up a photo up for the pre face lift?
