Please help me diagnose my rattle

Hey Guys,

Lately I have noticed that when lightly tapping my accelerator, I can hear metallic rattling coming from what sounds like the front right end of the car. I've also noticed, that if I floor it my exhaust and/or intake sounds louder than it normally does. I'm thinking that it may be the catalytic converter(s) but Im not really sure. I currently have 79400 miles and I know the car has an 80k warranty on emissions so if it's the cats, I need to address this immediately. The car isn't throwing any errors. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm with you on the cat. Sometimes these things sound like they're coming from one spot but are actually coming from another.

Oh, and also when I do a cold start on my car the exhaust has a putting kind of sound. Has anyone had any experience getting MB to do emission warranty work? I'm wondering if they will charge me a "diagnostic" fee if I bring it in since it didn't throw any errors.

If the problem is covered by warranty then no diagnostic fee can be charged.

sounds like the bolts holding the exhaust system at the various points are weak, rusted through or broken.

A common problem especially if you live in the rust belt

This would still be covered under the emission warranty right?

highly doubt it, bolts wear out in exhaust systems especially since they are regular steel ones and not brass or stainless steel, hence why I titled my post 'maintenance item'
