Impact Gun bad??
I was told NOT to use an impact gun to put my wheels on my car. Also my friend said it was bad to use an impact gun on wheels that have spacers because the spacers can crack... thoughts? Spring is here and I wanna put my summer wheels back on. Should i just use a tire iron?

The problem with the impact gun is only its potential to over-tighten. The way I use it is to just quickly tighten all bolts and get the wheels on snug. Don't tighten too much past the point of resistance. Then just hand tighten from there, shouldn't need to turn any more than about half a turn to hit about 100 ft-lb

It's not just that an impact wrench might over tighten your lug bolts, but they will likely be tightened to a different torque value which could cause warping. You can use an impact wrench to take your wheels off but you should always use a torque wrench (when possible - obviously, if you're on the road and you get a flat, you're not likely to have a torque wrench) when you tighten them.

When using an impact wrench to put wheels on you also run the risk if not being able to get the bolts out in case of a flat.
No impact wrench.

YOu can use impact gun but you have to have the "Torsion Bar/Torque bar" rated at 80lb between the impact gun and the socket.....
here is the image of what I mean......

or use one of these which are limited to 75lb ft and then finish by hand with a torque wrench

as ncmudbug said over tightening can cause warping to the rotors and can crack the mounting points on the wheels to crack. using impact to remove is ok and general install but not to the point of tightening to spec. lug bolts and nuts should be torqued down to 85lbs/ft. they recommend that after reinstalling a wheel after driving about 50miles retighten down the bolts and lugs.

+1 with finishing with a torque wrench. At the track we do 90ftlbs per wheel while its on the ground.
that impact is AWESOME for REMOVING the wheels though... and if its been awhile.. don't forget that block of wood and a sledge hammer.. they tend to stick.
