Updated Trans adapter plug is impossible to push into housing with new o-rings.

Went to replace the trans adapter plug tonight in my c280 and when I pulled out mine I found that it had two o-rings already. I'm guessin it was already replaced by the previous owner. It was soaked in red atf fluid so it needed changing anyway. Should the fluid be red? I read on here it should be a goldish/ brown color I thought.

I went to insert the new trans plug and it will not seat for the life of me. I removed the o-rings and it fully seats with ease. Is there a trick to this? Should I microwave the o-rings and put them in hot?

I've read several DIYs on the swap and none mention this issue.

Any help guys?

Thanks!

I lubed the o-rings with a bit of ATF (which should be reddish in color). Also check to make sure there isn't already an O-ring stuck in there somewhere.

I have the same problem man. I spent about 45 minutes to an hour getting that thing back in. A real PIA when you are on your back. What I had to do was once I have it seated right (grooves lined up) I just push the darn thing as hard as I could while using a 1/4 ratchet with extension to screw it back in.

Are these aftermarket parts with O-rings that are too fat? Have you compared it's size with the one you pulled out? In my experience none of the rubber should be an especially hard fit, especially if you lube it up with either a bit of oil or silicone grease. Should require just a firm push to get the plug to seat all the way in.

if you don't already have silicone grease I suggest you get some, from the local hardware store in the kitchen faucet/plumbing section. It's a great remedy for many uses, this being one of them.

Is this the plug you are talking about?

be very careful on not bending the pins when replacing the plug. You will have to remove a lot more if the pins are bent.

Replace the connector with the new o-rings. Not only replace the o-rings.

Put the plug and o'rings in the freezer for a few hours. Take it out, put a finger of transmission fluid (only) on the o'rings and quickly shove it in the hole. (old German trick)

Had a same problem. The adapter(genuine part) would not go in. Searched the forum and followed ''Moviela"s advice and it worked.
I still had to tap it few times with rubber mallet to seat it tight and keep on pushing hard while thightening the 7mm screw.
And for the first timers, do not over thighten the screw. You can damage the thread easyly.

As long as it's aligned properly, Just push hard, if it doesn't go in, push harder. There's no trick here, just elbow grease.
