Autocross Picture
Link to the autocross picture. I placed first in class, but could have run a couple seconds faster if with practice

Great to hear first place. What kind of tire pressure did you run and in what class? I will try my C320 (first) time this coming month. With some luck hope to match you success.

Very Cool!!
I used to autocross a lot and oddly enough I read as many posts as I could about autocross results of the various cars before decideing on the MB. The MB and G35C where neck and neck. I read the forums on the G35 and they all complained how bad the car was at autocrossing. They all said it plowed (understeered) very bad. Early posts on this forum showed great results - nice to see the MB coupe still does very well!
Keep up the good work and fun! I may autocross my MB someday after I get back in the swing of things with my '66 Datsun Roadster.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Have you upgraded your suspension at all?
Does changing springs and swaybars affect the class?

I got my but kicked Sunday at my first autocross in 23 years. 6th and last in G Stock and not even close to 5th. I will get better. I will get Falken Azenis tires. I used about 5000 miles of tread off the Pilot Sports on the rear. The fronts don't look any different.
Under SCCA rules for stock classes, the front sway bar may be changed or a sway bar may be added if the car doesn't have one. Rear sway bars may not be changed or added. Springs can only be changed if there were optional spings offered from the factory. If the car could be purchased with different springs as part of a handling or sports option, those springs can be installed. Aftermarket springs are not allowed.

WHAT CLASS FOR THE c320 COUPE
66 Roadster
Back in 1981, auto-x my 240Z at the old airport in Huntsville, so guess you never to old to drive in competition. Lynn glad to hear your giving it a try, think tire pressure makes the big difference in stock class. GOOD LUCk. THink the Coupe can do well, just be smoooooth.

Tom, G Stock is SERIOUS here. They are faster than STS, STX, SM and ESP. While my driving needs a lot of improvement, I don't think I can do much in that class. The competitive cars all have Hoosiers, and most especially the Honda/Acura's are using the Type R suspensions with extreme camber and caster settings. They are not daily drivers. And the fastest car in G Stock is an Oldsmoblile!!

They have an old book. They need to check the Fastrack section of the last couple of Sports Car magazines. I found the current classification in the Sept. issue of Grassroots Motorsports magazine.

Grassroots Motorsports magazine, would you believe, I gave the idea to Tim Suddard back in the early 1980's in Daytona Beach. Also D stock looks like some very hard competition, but what's a little heat, just makes you go faster.

I'm sure my local club will catch up to the correct clasification of the car. Heck, my insurance company has it listed as a four door because they don't have a two door C Class loaded in their system (probably why my insurance went down).
Most people I talk to were surprised to see an MB product at an autocross. They were even more surprised to see it had a six speed and could actually be tossed about the course.
The course we were on was much more suited to the light weight cars, such as Miatas and MR2s, than the bigger cars in the AS and BS catagories. Overall, it was a lot of fun and I hope to be there again this weekend. I'm sure I can get my times closer to the DS group with a little practice.
I'm running completely stock and will probably make very few mods to my car. I'm in it for the fun and to see what the limits of my car are. It's been many years since I've autocrossed, it is a load of fun. I recommend it to anyone, even if you are not a skilled driver. It is an execellent training environment where you shouldn't be able to hurt someone else or your car.
