My dad got a C230k and has a few questions :D

He loves the car, he can't believe its a 1.8 since it behaves like a V6, he used to own a 1992 Cadillac Seville STS so its a big jump backwards in engine power but the handling is waaaay better. He got bi-xenon, sunroof and all the toys and I think he payed $34k or so so I think he got a nice deal on it. He went for Pewter sicen he hates black cars I will have a look at the car in December when I go up there ( Lake Placid, NY )

Questions:

1) It has no engine temp gauge, I've been told that if you press the button to change the trip computer readings yo uget the temp to show...what's the normal range for those to work? 190? 210? I told him that anything over 230 is too hot so he must have a look at it from time to time.

2) Is the TeleAid system neccesary to get the phone instalation? He wants the phone but not the TeleAid

3) What's the handling like in snow?

4) Is it advisable to put wax on it right now? Or should he wait a couple months to wax it? S100 is going to be used with some mf towels.

5) Dealer said to not worry about oil change before the first 3k miles can he still request an oil change at 1k? I told him to break in the engine/tranny just like all the new cars should be run in, not go over 4k, warm it up by driving gently, not to go over 70 mph for extended periods and accelerate / brake gently...

Any reccomendations?

I'm eager to drive the thing :o

1. the car can run for hours at 100c but mine typically stays between 90-95c.

2. don't know why that would be

3. what is snow?

4. i waxed mine day one.

5. they will only do the free oil change when fss says to and the mininum for the first one is 10K miles, some have gone close to 20K miles. You can bring it in when it says next service in 1,000 miles at most dealers.

Buellwinkle I'll tel him that.

while searching I found some info about the temp, it reads in °C

We are stubborn as f*ck when it comes to engine oil so I can bet my *** that he will change the oil at 1k I just told him to be sure that won't f*ck up the warranty.

It's C230k sport sedan btw.

If the car's engine gets too hot, it will give you a malfunction notice. It will flash on the screen along with the temp gauge. There is really no need to look at the gauge on a regular basis unless you feel it's not running well.

2) Is the TeleAid system neccesary to get the phone instalation? He wants the phone but not the TeleAid
I'm not sure on this one.

3) What's the handling like in snow?

There are many threads with comments on how the car handles in the snow. You should do a search. In a nutshell, I would say that the car handles pretty well for a rear wheel drive. Of course, if you have the higher performance tires (C7 package), you can expect a little less traction.

4) Is it advisable to put wax on it right now? Or should he wait a couple months to wax it? S100 is going to be used with some mf towels.

I polished my car right after I got it. I used Zaino (see zainobros.com or see the details forum for info), which I highly recommend.

There is really no need to change the oil before the FSS says to, which should be somewhere around 10,000 miles. However, some here have changed their oil before this for peace of mind. If you decide to do this however, you will have to pay for it yourself. As for the break in period, following the advise you gave would be good. Some have also added to vary the speed of the car when on the highway; don't keep driving at a constant speed/rpm.

The best recommendation that I can make would be for your father to take 30 minutes or so and go through the owners manual. There is lot's of good info in there.

It's not necessary to get TeleAid to have the phone installed.

Thanks revstriker, I already forced him to take a look at the owners manula because it has the answers but he's being like a kid with a new toy... He only went to the dealer to have a look for a part my uncle needs for his 1996 C230 and when he saw the C230k he asked the price, asked for a test drive and refused to leave the car at the dealer so he signed the signed the papers and drove it home....most expensive MAF sensor ever! LOL!

I already read about some stuff going thru the search facility.

Sup renault Are you following me here just kidding To answer your questions

1) Don't worry about the temp, if something get's hot you will be warned.

2.) not sure about this one

3.) since you said he got his car fully loaded. I am going to presume he has the C7 wheels and tires. In that case It will be hard but still managable, tell him to invest in diffrent tires later on, but ESP should help him out alot.

4.) I waited 3 months until I waxed my car, because part of prepping up the car. My dealership waxed the car completly.

5.) as far as chaning the oil just stick to what the computer says. I know 10,000 miles for the first oilchange sounds alot, but this is a benz engine, it was meant to hold up.

It will handle like crap unless you put decent snows on. Last winter I tried for fun and wasn't even able to leave my neighborhood with the stock Z-rated Michelin Pilot Sports.

I got a set of 16" C sedan rims from eBay and mounted Dunlop Winter Sport M2 tires - never had problems in the snow or slush since. Winter tires are a must for this car.

So, are there any Dauphine 1093s down there in Venezuela? They used to be built by ****** in Brazil under license from Régie Nationale des Usines Renault.

I'd love a 1093, very cool car.

Snow handling

Well, I'm a Michigan native and had the coupe about 1.5 years now. (Seems like it's only been days though...I never leave her alone) Anyway, I drove from Ann Arbor to Rochester this year in our worst snowstorm ever...may have taken me 4 hours to drive 60 miles but it handled fine. I don't have the sport tires or anything so that is a difference but with smart driving techniques and the ESP I made it home just fine...as far as seeing more than 15 feet in front of the car, well I just used the SUVs abandoned in the ditches to light my way and keep me on the road.

Funny story about the whole thing is that when I finally did get home I parked it in the driveway because the garage was tore apart from a home improvement project. Got inside and just shut got upstairs when I heard a car alarm...I kind of shrugged it off but a few minutes later got pissed (it was 4 AM) and went to see what the hell was going on...well, there was my coupe sitting in the middle of the street having slid off my driveway and into the road. Good thing I live on a dead end!

Hope the fam enjoys the car.

An oil change every 10,000 may seem like a long time. But you have a lot of synthetic oil in the engine, far more than the four quarts some other makes use. A good oil filter will trap the particles produced during break-in.

The temperature gauge can be found in the menus, but it will always pop up a warning if it gets too hot.
