Lowered my Coupe today

Hey everyone i finally had my car lowered today with H&R springs it looks great the front is very low and the back is a little lower. only when i brought it to get allined they said they need to adjust my cambers because they got way off from lowering it. so they said they have to take off and replcace some of the bushings? i dont really know so i cant drive it till tommarow after i have that done which they said is a big job it takes about 4 hours. Well the car looks great i will post some pics once i have it all finished.

"welcome to real life" - lonestar, spaceballs.

your camber will be way off with the H&Rs... (one reason I prefer the Eibachs... not quite so low). you will either need "camber plates" or new bushings... the bushings being the cheapest alternative. good luck!

price

well so far the prices are $280.00 for the springs $265.00 for installation, $99.00 for special alliment, and i think they said $80.00 to replace the bushings especially since its 4 hours of labor. i had no idea it would come to this much just to lower a car.

actually... if this is all you paid, you're doing good... keep an eye on your shocks, they might be shot from the higher-rate springs after about 10,000 miles or so. that is a really good install price, and trust me, its better to pay $500 for a good alignment/camber adjustment job now than replace 4 18-inch performance tires once a year.

although "special alignment" is B.S. its no different thana standard alignment, jsut a little more work. if they want to charge you by the hour, let them, but "special"... gimme a break.

For comparison, it would have been about $350 to install new springs/shocks and do a proper alignment on my old integra (never got around to it... didn't really need it). so you are about par for the course.

Got h&r myself. Are they doing front and rear ? My front looks okay but the rear wheels like these / \ . Can you find out what brand of bushings they used to fix the squat ? k-mac ? I think renntech makes them too.

$350 to install springs and shocks and do an alignment?

That price is ridiculous.

It only cost me $90 US to get my springs installed and get an alignment done on my Type-R.

If I changed the shocks as well, it wouldn't have cost me any more money since the shock has to come off anyway.

you get what you pay for.... a good 4-wheel alignment around here is over $100, plus 2.5 hours @ $70-per... add tax, viola $350

dont do a alignment immediately

you have to wait for the spring to settle in and sag a bit

I guess it depends on the pricing for labour in your area.

The most expensive alignment around here is $60..most are $50.

Install for springs on any Honda/Acura is 1 hour labour charged at $40.

springs

onie- My front and rear look great the alignment came out perfect it feels the same as how it use to. and i am very happy with the ride i cant really tell a difference between this ride and how it use to feel. i dont know what kind of bushings they used i had tire kingdom do it though so i am not sure. i am just very happy with how it rides now. the shocks are great with these springs its not bouncy at all. and no my rear wheels is not like / \ there is no negative camber at, all at least of what i can see and what tire kingdom said. i would take a pic of the car but it is pouring here i cant see a thing but i will take a pic once the weather clears up which will hopefully be soon i dont want to go in any big puddles now

by the way randy where can i get those pads for the rear and how much will it lower it? oh wait if i had those put on i would need to have it re allignd right?

You would not have to have the alinment redone, because of changeing the rear spring pads. They are cheep 10.00-14.00 each they come in 4 sizes you can tell which pads you have by the number of little rubber nipples on them it would be 1-4 pad. If I remember correctly you can change the rear 1/2 to 3/4 with the pads.

Not to put a damper on your party, because I think it's great you love your new suspension, and I love the idea too. But, did anyone at the shop tell you how much the camber was off before hand, and after the bushing replacement? Did you actually see the report from the alignment rack? I know they said it was okay, but, and no offense, there is no way in **** you can tell visually, or from driving (despite vast years of experience), that the camber is correct. Even if it was off as much as 5 degrees, you would have no visual way of knowing.

I mention this because as little 2 degrees of negative camber in the front end is a common practice to gain better grip in the front among the racing types. Imagine this || compared to / \ in the front (granted, quite ASCII exaggerated). Based on how the front end reacts in turns and with the added dynamics of an anti-sway bar, you can see how the increased grip would come into play. The only flaw with this is, that minimal amount of 2 degrees will have a tendency to chew through tires in no time flat. If the tires are of the performance type, well, you'll be replacing them as quick as you can type www.tirerack.com. I really hope they got it right for your sake, as well as mine and the rest of the forum's. Please shed any insight you can on the matter. Thanks...

Thats fantastic! I'm glad it worked out so well, and now I feel much better about doing mine. If you don't mind me asking, how much it was off before the bushing adjustment? Thanks!
