ESP error diagnosed as rotary speed lateral acceleration sensor

ESP Error diagnosed as rotary speed lateral acceleration sensor and quoted at $750 to replace.

I haven't been able to find a part number for 2006 C230 to confirm if this is the expected price with labor? Any feedback would be great.

It's a plug in module. You can change it yourself.

Great! I'll look into it and let you know how it goes. By the way, the few times I have posted here for help you have always jumped in with solutions - thanks for that.

I would buy the latest iteration A 004 542 92 18. Nice saving to be had over the dealer quote. Beats $750 by some margin.

The ESP error mentioned cleared 2 days ago and has not returned. I haven't ordered the part yet and am considering waiting to see if it happens again before repairing. The fault code only appeared for 1 day and it didn't seem to disrupt driving...is this safe or should I just go ahead and order?

Not sure about this part, but I've had ESP errors mysteriously show up and disappear before, with 0 intervention. Sometimes the parts are just act up for no reason. If you really want you can replace the module, but if I were in your shoes I'd just leave it alone, and see if it pops up again.

The system will count errors until it reaches a theshold & triggers a warning. You know what you have to do if it comes back. I would drive the car & see what happens. Also check that the sensor has not taken a clout from something really heavy in the trunk & that it is properly plugged in. It might even pay you to clean the plug with switch cleaner. I gave you the fix because it sounded as though the Yaw sensor was history. They have given some trouble hence the newer parts.

Good luck & don't fix what is not broken!

THE C350
My car had the other (cheaper) sensor go out but it would cause an error for a day or two then go away for a week or month then come back for a few days longer then go away. This went on for 2 or 3 months until I got off my lazy butt and got my star system out and figured out what the issue was. I would say you will be replacing this part in the near future. That said do what Glyn suggested and make sure you don't have anything flying around the trunk area. There are many parts back there that can act strange if hit with something. The fun one is hard corning with a bowling ball made my car think I had rolled or something and unlogged the doors and gave me 3 or 4 error on the IC.
