exact oil level readout safe margins

Hey guys,

What are the upper and lower limits and average amount of oil level I should see in the readout? I want to make sure I don't let it get too low and I don't want to overfill it if I ever need to add any.

Thanks!

I know the proper level for the c240 is 8.5 qrts. How much driving have you done with only 5.8 qrts? did you get any "Add oil" messages?

People please pay attention to the fact this is running oil level not what you added after a refill.

I must be the only one that actually reads the FAQs around here lol. Turn the key on first click press the reset button three times. It will only work within five seconds Of turning the key on and only if the mileage is what is displayed.

^ 8 quarts in the sump not running equates to ~7.2-7.4 running at a ~625-RPM temperature stabilized idle on mine.
It’ll vary of course contingent upon engine speed, windage, upstairs circulation, viscosity, drainback and chassis’ attitude/dynamics as the level around the sensor is also effected.
This can be graphically demonstrated by viewing the aforementioned readouts whilst underway.
All this with the same initial not running/not running quantity, e.g., 8 quarts.

Workshop safe margin method is to measure oil quantity, volume, and its resultant sump height up from the bottom of the pan via the extraction tube which eliminates several variables and all electronics from the equation entirely.
I have that information readily available in the archives, although those safe margin measurements are chassis and drivetrain specific.

The reason I asked for running numbers is because contradictory to your information on mine these are the non running numbers which shows the engine circulating nearly 2 qts. Below are my off readings.

How do I get this on a refresh late model W203? I know the M272 motor has a dipstick and my oil currently reads at the middle dot which according the owner's manual is correct however I'd like to see what level it reads through the readout.

Should be like this:
key to first position, mileage on the display; press the reset knob three times, should hear a beep and battery voltage displayed on the screen, then scroll up (I think) to see the info with oil and stuff, then turn the ignition to ON (do not start).
