Strange no start. No crank problem. Help.

Ok. I own a 2004 c230 k sedan. The car hasn't given me any problems up until two days ago. Got up around 10am drove to the cleaners, parked and turned it off. Then I Drove to the barbershop, parked and turned it off. Then drove to the bank, and to the car wash. This time I parked the car turned it off and washed the car. ( I didn't wash the engine bay) just to make that clear. I finished washing it and was going to move it into a different stall to dry it. Inserted the key, all interior lights came on, but I turned it fully to turn the car on... Nothing, just a click. No starter engaging. No lights dimming. Nothing. Called someone to pick me up, hooked up a memory saver to the car, was able to take the battery to autozone. They said it was a good battery. 12.4 volts. I cleaned the terminals, put the battery back in. Still nothing. Checked the fuses. I'm stumped. Going to take it to a mechanic on Monday. But maybe someone here might know what happened. Is this common? Car has 121k miles on it.

I would open up all the electronic/ sam/fuse boxes on the car ( boot & bonnet) & check for water ingress.

Check fuse 52 (20 amps) it supplies power to the starter solenoid. You could also have a sticky solenoid.

Not unexpected at this mileage.

+1^ Fuse 52 is standard at 15 amps. Benz uprated to 20A in DTB. Common problem.

Check the fuses, then locate local a long piece of pipe, or metal rod of some sort. Locate the starter and bang/tap on the top of the starter from the engine compartment being careful not to damage any wires or hoses.

If it starts, the brushes on the starter are shot and the starter needs servicing or replacement. Common problem at that mileage.

I say, serviced as in you can take your starter to an auto electrics shop and repaired inexpensively vs. buying a rebuilt unit. I had new brushes put in for $25.

Will look into all of the above possible solutions. Thanks for the replies. Post my findings as soon as I get a chance. Thanks again.

Unfortunately no. I had it towed to a shop that's suppose to specialize on imports like my Benz. When I towed it my neighbor told me that at 3am he heard it turn on and of. Lights coming on and off. That explained why it was dead the day I decided to have it towed. After a few days at the shop, the owner called me and said he couldn't fix it. Supposedly he said that a system dealing with the transmission shorted out. He basically said I'm stumped, take it to the dealer. (Last time I'm taking it to him) so Monday I'm going to tow it to the dealer. Not much else I can do.

Haven't been on in a while but it was fixed at the dealer two days after taking it there. It ended up being the starter. It was expensive there but at least I have the piece of mind that it was done right.
