Help. . . Black cars check yr doorhandles

First things first . . . Glad to have MBWorld back!!!
That was a mighty long two weeks.

Now the deal:

While waxing my Black/Charcoal C230SportSedan, I found that the door handles are definitely Black Onyx, while the rest of the car is Black.

Could some of you out there with Black cars check your outside doorhandles, and let me know if this is normal (maybe cost savings), or if maybe Gunter from Quality Control was sipping his Bitburger as my car passed his station.

Thanks in advance for you replies.

do you mean obsidian black? If so, yes I noticed it is slightly a different color (metallic flake in it).

Yes, maybe Obsidian Black (memory starts to go in the middle 30's).

Definitely lighter, and metal flake.

Thanks for the reply.

I have just plain ol black 2002 coupe and the handles does have gold flakes in them. You can barely tell unless its really bright outside....interesting as perhaps they use the same handles for ALL black cars?

handles

Yeah, I have an '02 coupe black with the C7 (painted handles). Not the same color as the rest of the car. They are black with alittle metalic flake.

tberry, I saw the pic you recently posted .those fog lights like nice with the blue. Which brand are they? your signiture says ~ hi/lo/fog 5000K bulbs, white side markers, hyperwhite citylights & interior lights. Is that stall correct, what brand??

Thanks :-) well I've tried about 3 brands (2 generic Ebay and one brand called Plasma Industries) and I like the Plasma Industries the best but i cant find the Ebay seller anymore and cant find any other vendor either (I think website is www.plasmaindustries.com) . Stay away from Ebay generic ones as I had them burn out on me quickly and fitment sux too (one time one of the main headlight bulbs came lose and the bulb was burning the plastic housing ) Now in terms of color temp you'd want to get about 4500-5000k (kelvin) to get that color. Unfortunately I dont think PIAA make anything in that color range. Try to get a decent brand like Raybrig, PIAA, or try the SPP (www.supremepowerparts.com , I've ordered Audi parts from them and they're great). You need H7 for low/high and i think 9006 for fogs. Good luck.

Mine's got obsidian black for handles as well ( '03 C230 delivered in January )

Is the metallic paint stronger? E.G. since people are going to be grabbing the door handles with rings & such using a harder paint would prevent them from having to deal with lots of complaints about scratched up door handles.

Whew! I thought it was just me losing my mind. I've always thought my '03 black sport sedan had metallic paint on the door handles. I only notice it when I am washing the car, but it does seem a little odd.

Well, I guess there's no point complaining to the dealer . . . it seems that they're all like this.

The only time it really bugs me is when I'm washing or waxing it, and it is readily apparent.

Thanks for the replies guys!
