2002 C240 - very weird malfunction
I got an SRS malfunction error last week and thanks to help on this forum I was planning to replace the sensor as soon as possible. Then two nights ago when my wife was driving the car, the lights started flashing (inside and out), the wipers came on, high beam indicator flashed, and she said there were 4 malfunctions on the instrument cluster. She pulled over and shut down. When she restarted the malfunctions were gone (except SRS) and everything was back to normal. No codes stored.
In the past 6 weeks, I have replaced the alternator (6 weeks ago), water pump, thermostat, belt tensioner, idler bearing, and belt.
Battery reads 12.58 (drops to around 11.5 when starting)
Alternator charging at 14.7 when running

I have the same problem with my '01 C240. Check out the following thread, it seems like the radio head unit may cause the issue

Mine started a day after the SRS error came on, so I am guessing (hoping) it was caused by an SRS short. Mine seems to have stopped with the crazy malfunctions since I disconnected the SRS unit under the seat. I still get the SRS message, but not all the other wild stuff. I have ordered an SRS emulator and am hoping it solves the problem.
If the problem persists, I will gladly upgrade to a new radio.

Have you checked your alternator and battery?

I unplugged the radio two months ago and since then haven't experienced the problem (however the light is still on). Connected the radio again a couple days ago, to see if I could reproduce the problem (so far, everything is cool). Please keep the thread updated once you replace the SRS device. Thanks!
Have not checked it, however, I noticed that the instrument cluster and radio orange backlight is dimmed now

OK. Finally got an SRS emulator from Lithuiana.

The only problem is that the instructions were for a for an W168, which does not look anything like what I have in my W203. Does anyone have directions for installing an emulator in a C240 or any other W203?

It is better to email the seller and ask for specific info for your car. I have order a similar modul from www.airbaglightoff.eu which was plug and play, with oem connector. I was needed it because I have retrofit the new front W207 seats to my CLK W209 cabrio, who were also plug and play except the airbagmodul and the power supply for the seat adjustments. These seats can also be fitted to W203. The W209 seats can also be retrofit to W203. The seat rails are the same. You can see more in that thread.

For ease of installation, I ordered the plug and play emulators from airbaglightoff/airbag360. I just installed them (seat and seatbelt) a few minutes ago. They were very easy to install. However, the SRS light did not go off. Do I need to have the dealer turn off the light now or will it go off after I drive for a while?

Out Of Control!!
It couldn't hurt to let it cycle a couple of times and see if it recognizes it. If it doesn't eventually go off, the emulator's not doing its job. So going to the dealer would mean that you wasted the money on that part. Hopefully, it'll rectify itself.

I heard back from airbag360 and they said that if the occupancy sensor was the problem, the SRS error light would turn off almost immediately after the emulator was installed. They say I need to check for other codes. The OBDII scanner I have does not show any stored error codes. What type of scanner do I need to use? ...or do I just bite the bullet and take it to the shop?
