They had a Mars Red SL500 and C230K sedan at my local dealer, and a Magma Red SLK230 and it's really hard to tell the difference. It's just bright red no matter how you look at it. The SL500 was indoors and it took on a blood red look but I think that was just the lighting, the C230K in Mars red looked just like my buddy's Magma red C320 he was getting washed. The funny part is that I thought it looked slightly darker and he thought it looked slightly lighter but unless you put them side by side in bright light you won't be able to tell the difference.

For the same reason they change anything.... updating, refreshing, allegedly improving, giving a new marketing angle.
