don't these filters cause problems with certain sensors in the car thereby decreasing performance after a couple k miles?

There has been talk about the oil used to condition the gauze can damage MAS sensors.

i've read several threads about cars, eg c43 or c36, not up to par in performance like when they were new. several members commented about how k&n filters seems to release an oil over sensors that detect the correct amount of air/gas ratio needed for the engine to combust fuel correctly, thus hindering performance. people reported clean the sensors or getting new one and the performance going back like the car was new again though.

The only way to let more ait in throught he same surface area is to increase the space between fibers. If you increase the space between fivers then you are also increaseing the space for more dust and particles to go through. And im sure you can guess where the next stop for these particles will be... A good thing to compare is the size (in microns) of particles the filter will let through. FOr insnstance i think BMC will let less dirt though than the K&N. They use a foam instead of gauze which is supposed to trap moredirt and be more effecient than tthe K&N.

yeah i also heard bmc are great although i think one of them or both contain oil but its a minimal amount compared to the K&N which is saturated.... not good when your at high speeds accelerating the air is coming in so fast and being sucked in at the same time all the oil is bound to be on your sensors.. i wouldnt go with K&N... some people may like them and just shake all the excess oil off and use a towel so theres not as much but in my opinion there dangerous..
