C180K miss on startup [solved]
Hi everyone
As the title says I have a C180 Kompressor that misses on startup for a few seconds maybe 10 sec or so, or till you rev it. All starts for the rest of the day are fine and no miss when driving. I have changed the spark plugs, fuel filter (which was dirty) air cleaner is ok, checked the resistance on the coils and it shows no codes, it has 160,000 km on the clock
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance

Check if one plug electrode is wet on starting. In the past I had a slight head gasket leak in one cylinder which caused the same symptom.

@ C 63AMG I just checked these hoses and they are split (I have ordered new ones) I taped the top one up to see if the miss stopped as a test it still missed but the lower ones might be split also, I will wait till I get parts before I pull them off looks like a big job to get lower ones
@ Carsy I will check the plugs tomorrow morning I had thought of this but the car uses no water so I hadn't gone any further down that track but its still possible, when you had this problem was the head corroded away or was it a simple head gasket job ?
Thanks for the help guys much appreciated from a new MB owner

What year is your car? Early M271 engines suffered from cylinder head intake & combustion chamber fouling. The head was redesigned.

I did not loose any measurable amount of water. Just a slight leak into one cylinder.
After adding Wynns Stop Leak every 12 months I had no further trouble. The car ran for hundreds of thousands of Km after treatment & never had the head removed. Sold it at 450,000km to be cut up , containerised & sent to Egypt for spares. It was a Peugeot 504.
Good luck.

Oh good! Then you are out of the head trouble area.
Does the car store any misfire codes? 300, 301, 302 etc? You might also have a dirty injector. Run one bottle of Techron concentrate in a tank of fuel. Injectors clean quickly.
If none of this works I recommend cleaning the throttle body. M271's can be slightly ragged starters as they age & some issues are caused by the TB & TB actuator.

It has no codes that I can pick up with my scanner and no dash light, I have already run some injector cleaner
I will check the throttle body when I replace the breather hoses, can you use normal throttle body cleaner (pressure pack) on a M/B or just wipe it out ?

The misfires might be below threshold or non existent.
Any TB cleaner is fine. Also clean the actuator tracks.

A post to let people know what I did to fix my miss
*A full tune up plugs and filters, used a non genuine fuel filter, I didn't realise at the time the pressure regulator was in it so will keep an eye on that
*Replaced top PVC hose, didn't have a inlet manifold gasket set to do lower ones so order them
*cleaned throttle body and actuator tracks
*replaced lower PVC hoses and valve, valve fell apart when I touched it
*had injectors cleaned on a bench while I had them out, I had run cleaner through them previously
All the above improved the problem but didn't fix it 100%
*cleaned the MAF sensor, next day I had to do a 600 km trip it started ok and on the trip the fuel usage was much improved going by the dash readout, I have started the car every morning for the last week and it has started flawlessly, I guess the long trip gave the ECU time to re-calibrate to the MAF
Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions on this page especially Glyn
Hope this helps someone in the future
