HID busted???

Darn...my right HIDS wont turn on. I bought it with the group buy that Jason did a couple years back. At first it took a couple on and offs for it to go on, and now, its just dead. Dont know what to do cuz its aftermarket?? Not sure if its the connection...the bulbs..etc. Any advice???

It happen on one of my Bi-Xenon unit. When I just got it, the light will turn on with 5-30sec delay but after few weeks it went dead. I talk to Steve and he managed to replace the whole unit for me. Later he found out the igniter unit is bad and he is able to fix it.
If ur bulb is not broken, the only 2 possible unit that may brake down is igniter or blaster.

Just upgrade to Bi-Xenon (from Steve) and keep it as a spare (& see if Steve can take a look when he is here again.)
Just a suggestion.

I was talking to my friend and he said that is the downsize to most HIDS. Since they are fairly new technology, not much research is out yet, and thier is alot of cases that one side dies right away. I guess im pretty much screwed!

Depends on the bulb quality.
Even OEM Xenons blow every once in a while.
I've known people who have aftermarket kit for years without a blowout.
BTW, you can pick up a set of HID Bulbs from $99-200 easily.

I don't want to overstate the obvious... but why not switch ballasts and bulbs to deduce which component is bad? You did get two right? This way you will be able to definitively state this is the bad component. How to get it repaired/replaced - that you're on your own.

Also, HID on cars have been around for about nine years. That's not a new technology by any stretch. Most HID systems out today are 3rd, 4th gen designs. In fact, HID is becoming "15 minutes ago" very rapidly. A quick scan of all the new cars on the show circuit will tell you that all the manufacturers have a woody for LED lights - yep little round buggers that we all have everywhere. Also, fwiw, HID has been around (outside of cars) since the 1930's.

Dude...the shop that installed my HIDS made it so hard to take it out. The plastic cover was hard to take out due to the ballast blocking the way...then the wires that run through the cover make it difficult to find room to stick my hand in there. Once i get room, i cant even take out the bulb (whats up with the bulb...shouldnt it come out like a stock one or is it one piece??). Thats where i am now. MAN. I feel like taking the whole system out and going back to stock. Sorry, im just frustrated right now.

Your asking questions that will varry depending on who installed it and which kit it is.

Personally, I know my kit all I need to do is remove the headlight cover (the circular screw part) to get to the bulbs...10-20 seconds at the most.

Have you checked the R headlamp fuse...my kit came with a bad relay and upon installation blew the fuse.

Good Luck
