That would mean the whole upper dash, with air bags

Still there are a lot of sedans in the wrecking yards as Mercedes has sold a ton of them.

An instrument cluster is never plug and play. It always requires coding.

Coding is fine as long as it can be done.

2005 Instrument Cluster for 2002-2004?

I'd like to see if it is possible to change the instrument cluster of a 2004 c230 SC from the standard speedometer-behind-screen setup to a newer, more traditional-looking 2005 instrument cluster (with the seperate guages and bluish coloring). Is it possible, in terms of plug-and-play? And does the screen work correctly? I know it's pretty soon after the release of the '05s for a question like this, but I really like the new look of the cluster. The 04.5 sedans had the new cluster, right? Might that work?

LOL, STF is the long answer?

BTW, it did search, but nothing relevant came up under '2005 instrument cluster', 'instrument cluster', or 'cluster'. Could it be that I should have been searching under another term?

the 2005 cars have the MOST network and 01-04 have D2B. the two are not compatible and one of the reasons why the instrument clusters and center consoles are not transferrable.

Upgrade a 2004 instrument panel to a 2005/2006?

Is it possible to replace the old instrument panel (tachometer, gas guage, speedometer) with the new one? I have a manual, and the new tachometer is amazing.

Is this something that is DIY or is it better to have a dealer install it?

Search for the username Sunman. He's the only member to have done this and it's not exactly plug and play.

D2B and MOST are audio related and have nothing to do with the IC at all...

CANBUS protocols is what is important for an IC and that has changed as well...the updated ICs do not communicate with your pre updated audio...this might be codeable but I have my doubts.

Suman installed a 211 cluster in his 203 - not an updated 203 cluster.

Changing the cluster to 2005 also requires a new steering control module, airbag assy, and clock spring. The steering wheel buttons will not work without changing these parts as well. And then after you change these parts, your audio info will not show in the cluster anymore unless you change to the new MOST based system.

Instrument Cluster Swap?

Here is the strange tech question of the day. Does anyone know if you can swap the instrument cluster from the later C-class sedans (the nice looking one with speedo with tach) with the clunky one from the C-class wagon? The wagon would make a nice car for family outings for me except that the instrument cluster makes a Yugo look positively luxurious! I can't remember the last time I saw something that ugly looking (my apologies in advance to W203 wagon owners); it's enough to scuttle the car for me. I think the folks in MB marketing tried to "differentiate" the C class wagon from the E class by reducing the trim level in the wagon and blew it.

If it could be changed relatively easily (same harness plugs, etc.) I would consider getting a new cluster from a salvage yard and make the swap.

Any thoughts?

PS - I usually post on the R129 board, but as you may guess, I'm looking for some family transportation.
