Face-Lifting a 03 C240 with a 06 C230

I have changed the title to this thread. Im going to post here as I journey through face-lifting my 03 C240.

Original post:

I swapped my 03 c240 steering wheel with the face-lifted c230 steering wheel. Everything went together well other than the steering wheel controls cable. Both have three wires and three pins, but the connector is different. Could I just splice and solder on the newer connector?

Search up Infected's thread. Might be able to find some insight on his build thread. I believe he swapped his steering wheel out too.

You could've already tested it yourself using some pieces of wire and/or a multimeter...

I cant test the other car. Its at a junkyard with no battery. I couldnt find any info on changing out the steering wheel on infected's thread. I think I might just pull the rest of the steering column out ( blinker, steering angle sensor, etc.. and see if that will cause it to be plug and play.

Steering wheel changement

Hi,

I have the same problem.

Originally I had the 4 spoke steering wheel and I bought the 3 spoke wheel(sport model) but the connector for the multifonctions buttons are different.
I haven't got the cable for the new steering wheel.

Did someone have the solution for this?

You need the clock spring/steering angle sensor for the steering wheel as well.

There were complications at the junkyard and I never got to pull any other parts off of the car. I would have done a full interior facelift, but the guy got pissy when I didn't specifically ask to pull a certain part off the car even though I was there asking him how much he wanted for the parts... I ended up welcoming the guy for pulling the parts off the car for him, and told him to never worry about me doing business with him again.

4 spoke to 3 spoke wheel swap on a prefacelift w203 is easy. Just use the pre facelift 3 spoke wheel. It's plug and play and all the buttons work.

Just in case someone is in the same predicament as I was in...
I ended up replacing the steering angle sensor to the one that was originally on the sports mode and all is working now.

I have the same problem.
the new sports steering wheel has a different top plug. Both are 3 pins.

Could I just connect the wires from the old plug to the new one?

For the last time, pre and post facelift steering wheels are NOT interchangable because the steering wheel buttons use completely different protocalls to communicate to the rest of the car. Yes one guy one time many years ago did it by replacing the steering column electronics and a whole bunch of other components in the dash. Are you prepared to do that?
if you really want a 3 spoke wheel on you pre fecelift car get a pre facelift wheel. 3 spoke wheel.
