No comment on how much I make, but I will comment that you have chosen an interesting breakdown of numbers for your poll.

I would guess that the way you have the numbers broken down, you would not get any meaningful poll results, even if everyone were to answer it.

What do you think the poll should be like? The way i see it i wanted to keep the numbers close to get a better idea of the range of income. I think that for most C-Class owners who own a 26k - 60k car they mostly likely in these ranges. I could be wrong but that just MO.

I think about 95% are in the 51k > you should break it down after 50,60...like 50 -60, 60-70, 70-80 ....just MO

You need to skew it higher, something like:

Up to $35K

$36-50K

$51-80K

$71-$100K

$100-$150K

$150k+

Also, given the MSRPs, I'd guess coupe owners would come in lower (say, ave around $75 w/ the median lower) while sedan owners would be somewhat higher ($100+?)

I honestly didn't think that majority of C owners were in this high of an income bracket Accord if you don't mind could you please mend the poll to these numbers please....

<35k
36k - 45k
46k-65k
66k - 100k
101k - 150k
151k>

According to MB demographic numbers, the average C class household income in 2000 was around $93,000.

An interesting question, but there are so many other variables that interpreting answers is very difficult. The family income has to be adjusted for # in household, cost of living in area of residence, age, etc. (eg 75K in income is very different for a single 20 something in Ohio or a 40 something sole wage earner for a family of 4 in NY/SF/DC with college age kids). Just a coment from a phd social scientist type.

God I could have fun with this thread. It is sitting out there looming like a boogie in sight.

I mentioned earlier that a degree of affluence was required to own a benz. Even if it's the lowest priced one most people will shy away because of the MB folklore (maintenace cost, etc...).

Move those classifications if you really mean to have any valuable data.

Regards
WyattEarp

PS I fall in the <35K class.

PSS THAT 14.7 PERCENT IS REALLY DISTURBING. HERE WE GO.

So, are you asking for the household income, or the income of just the primary driver?

I interpreted it as the income of the driver. I will now reveal my salary....$0

I'm bringing down the average, baby!

I hope that BigBadMom brings the household average back up! I'd hate to think that my tax dollars might be supporting someone elses Mercedes habit!

Good point. But so far, according to the results, I think they're different from what Sal first expected.

I'm married and have no kids. My wife also works full-time. I could spend more than I did for my C240, but I have to balance the house costs (mortgage + maintenance/upgrades), 2nd car (I don't keep cars more than 4 years and I like two "nice" ones), etc., etc. I live in the DC area, and by numbers alone, I should feel more comfortable, but the truth is, stuff costs a lot of money. I put a limit on my monthly car payments and I try to stick with it.

I have to credit you w/ the addition, after your "b1tchslap" comment :o ! The smiley face means it's all in jest, of course. Don't know if you had seen my reply to your comment, but sometimes the perfectionist in me can't keep quiet! I inherited the curse from my dad...

Yeah, I did. I got a good chuckle out of it the first time that I saw it. It's really good to see that people here have a sense of humor.

How did you adjust the poll? Did you call everyone up and ask them their salary?

Hmmmm

Well, the poll is interesting, but.... I think we need to add one more category and that is:
___I lie on financial polls.

The results are skewed way too high for a normal distribution so either we have the range wrong or someone is padding the income. As someone said, 30% in the highest range certainly is not a bell curve result. So I chuckle at our wishful thinking, which is all we can expect in a poll like this.

Gee is tax time just around the corner? I wonder what all those $301K and above are reporting on their tax returns.

I think the breakdown could be a little better...

We do tons of "annual household income range" polling at my company, and we use the following breakdown:

Under 40,000
40,000 to 49,000
50,000 to 74,999
75,000 to 99,000
100,000 to 124,999
125,000 to 149,999
150,000 to 199,999
200,000 to 249,000
250,000 or more

This breakdown is almost industry-standard... US tax code is such that most people earning over 250,000 usually keep their salary at 250,000 and use alternate means of income for the rest, so the answers starts getting meaningless for breakdowns above that number...
