Hids4Less orders warning

hi

this may be totally unnecessary, but a word of warning: please check your credit cards to make sure your card has been charged the right amount.

a VW thread has some people who have had problems w/ hids4less... (from september so i hope they worked things out by now) i know that VW owners tend to be whiners but some of the complaints are valid.

day late and a dollar short

however when i ordered them on friday (last minute!) mike was very helpful, quick, and efficient. Took all my info, said the kit would be shipped on monday, and told me to call if i had any technical problems, or wanted to chat with kyle about housings.

Yep, here it is... Just checked with my bank, and found out that they charged me $594.44 as opposed to $450+S/H for the Stage I I had ordered...

I'll give them a call tomorrow to find out WTF is going on...

Same Problem Here. I ordered 2 Stage I units and was charged for 1 Stage II unit with shipping. Hopefully they shipped the right products and just charged me wrong. I too will give them a call this morning.

hmmm, 2 stage 1s, for the price of one stage 2??? not sure whether i would bring this to their attention till i was sure they sent me the wrong product!

i have no doubt i will recieve a HID kit for a bmw 5 series car, or something completely wrong.... my luck is like that.

well, i just spoke to kyle and he's unaware of the problems... hmmm...

this is getting kinda messy. i told him about vadim, edvpt and myself all getting stage 1 kits. he said he would just include checks in the kits (they should be leaving today if not already sent out) for the differences... i'm getting concerned about this and i'm getting myself emotionally prepared to call my credit card company if things don't work out. :p

Thanks, Young!

I'm quite prepared to do the same, just in case.... Hope things will work out well, though...

Additional question: how can I tell that I have Stage II instead of Stage I? The kit came in pieces, so there's no packaging to check. Anyone know?

Awaiting a new arrival...
Part of me wonders if it wasn't a good thing I never made contact with anyone last week when I tried...

After reading the Club B5 horror stories, maybe I should just use my contact that gets me HIDs from Germany...

What say you, oh wise MBWorld C class owners?

Those poor people on the Passat HID4Less group buy. All those problems with installation, components not working, missing parts, lack of response from the company, credit card restocking fees, no credit card refunds even after months, overcharges on credit cards. Boy, I'm glad I held back. Good luck to all that bought in.

Here's a place on the Passat site that looked interesting. It's a little cheaper but maybe they don't have the history that hid4less has. Also doesn't require a group buy.

don't cry for the VW people... :p

i called kyle to get a tracking number but he hasn't shipped mine, vadim's and edvpt's yet due to the Stage 1 issue. he said they will leave today or tomorrow. i recommend depositing those refund checks as soon as possible!

for everyone else, you can call him if you'd like to get a tracking number (assuming all the stage 2 kits have been shipped).

So, do you think that you'll get them this week, and install them on the weekend?

well, he's going to call me w/ the tracking number when it ships and if it's destined to arrive by friday, i'm going to attempt to schedule the visit to the dealership for saturday (might as well have the alignment checked out too). if the dealership says no, i'll try for a monday visit but install them probably sunday. i'll let you know as soon as possible which way it goes.

the other idea, of course, is that if i install them this weekend, you may also bring your kit and we'll install those too. not sure if the dealer will set the DAS settings for free though.

still some variables beyond my control (oooh, i can't stand that!). and i don't want to have the car w/out functioning headlights for an extended amount of time.

If anyone missed the group buy and want the Phillips Stage 1 kit, write to this guy, racingsupply@yahoo.com, he wants $400 plus shipping and is based out of Houston. Also I found the Hella kit that's equivalent to the Stage 2 kit for the same price. The nice thing about the Hella kit is that you can pick a 6000K bluish light like MB and BMW or a purplish light like Audi.

my predicament...

well, hids4less has let me down.

i had called a couple of days ago to try and get my tracking number. i spoke to michael, the *president*, and he found out that i wasn't even in the computer... hmmm...

so he takes my info again. oh, type 1 ballasts are backordered... hmmm... so i switch to type 2.

i call today, kyle answers. he puts me on hold as he's going to get the tracking number... well, he doesn't come back. 1/2 hour. i call back. kyle is gone for the day. hmmm....

i couldn't take it anymore and canceled my order.

update: i just spoke to Jeff, who seemed nice, and confirmed that i'm still not in the computer system for a kit... so i'm really canceling a phantom hids kit!

Wow, I wonder whats going on over there!! Maybe they lose so many customers this way that they have to over-charge the ones that keep their orders, just to stay in business!!

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you.

It doesn't seem like HID4Less stands for a lesser price just lesser service. As soon as I can figure out how to get the MB dealer to set the Xenon option or get the software to do it myself I'll do it. I'm going to go for the Hella HID Plus kit for $410 shipped. It seems logical since the HID Stage II kit uses the Hella bulb. It seems that 6000K is a good number. Most camera flashes are 6000K and 5000K is considered a warm light for portrait work. Also their lamp design spreads the light across the reflector for a more even distribution, more so than just a bare bulb. Worst case I can just cut off the reflector.
