DAS, desensitizing the smooth running detection

I think Glyn or Moviela would know the answer to this one.

Control unit ME,
"Correction programming for desensitizing the smooth running detection".

What does this screen mean? I am attaching a screen shot of DAS simulation session. Just curious, as the description text is rather obscure...
On my car the Correction factor is 1.3 and the threshold is about 1900.

Does it have something to do with fuel shut-off when coasting,
or is it for detonation?

I appreciate any insight! Thanks.

VVF,
I have no idea what that setting is for. Rather than start a whole new thread, I wonder if you could verify something for me...I'm up in the midwest for the holidays, and I have gotten hold of a star DAS unit. Problem is, I don't have access to a garage, and it's pretty cold outside. Can I hook up star to the car and do some coding with the engine running for warmth? Or does the ignition have to be on with the engine off? I want to enable nav in cluster, fuel tank info mod, tire pressure warner etc.
Again, sorry to threadjack...

I have done some coding with engine off. Also some diagnostics with engine on. It actually looks like the battery is under quite a stress so running the engine would help relieve thet, and it felt like the tests went faster with engine on
In some cases, it asks you to turn the ignition off for a second or ten, but then you can restart it back up
My problem was my laptop battery only lasted for an hour... Had to do it over the course of several days lol.

Somewhere under audio system you can enable a 5-10 sec delay before radio turns off after you remove key from ignition - a pretty handy mod.

OK. So the answer is this.
Somewhere in the w203 DVD I read about how the engine counts the number of misfires at any given time, something like 20 out of 600 or something...can't' remember exactly and don't expect me to find the document.

But yes, when it counts so many misfires within a certain period of time, it shuts off fuel and power to the coil, which is real fun on a 4 cylinder, and the reason I alway
keep a spare coil in the car.

I've come to learn though that it's not the coils per se, but the spark plugs.
Over time the gap increases and the plugs just get old and it put strain on the coils despite any claims that the plugs will last X miles. Maybe the plugs will but the coils get strained and cause faults. I found that many coils I had laying around (I went through a lot of them, quick fix)
were actually OK, when new plugs were installed.

My original plugs coils had my 1st misfire issue at around 55K.
Then I switched to the NGK iridium IX's 2 dubsteps cooler for the pulley and again was having problems within 30-50K.
I came to find out that really you can't expect more than 30K from the IX iridiums, so
now I use copper plugs (cheap!) and replace every 2nd oil change and it basically solves the problem.
Plugs changes on my car only take maybe 15 minutes tops so no biggie.

So "Smooth running detection" is the threshold that determines at what point does it kills the fuel and spark and you run on one less cylinder, until you stop and restart the car.
And ultimately replace plugs and or coils. or wires if you got 'em.

As far as the numbers shown correlation to something quantifiable, you'd probably have to talk to a factory trained mechanic.

Thanks, sounds like an explanation for my car's current issue - occasionally starts running on only 3 cylinders. Stop and restart clears the problem. No check engine light or fault indication. No particular pattern to the cylinder quitting. I'll try a set of plugs.

Sorry I did not see this thread. My good friend Todd has accessed his vast brain & dug up the correct answer.

I do not know the typical threshold values. It's somewhere in the WIS.
