K&N vs. ITG M271

I'm thinking about K&N or ITG. It looks like ITG doesn't have a filter for the M271. So i'm thinking K&N, I looked up K&N's site and found a bunch of (+15) places that sell the stuff...does anyone know where is the best place to buy K&N filters for the M271...buy the best I mean:

They have it in stock
Best Price
And ships quickly

I know I may loose couple of HPs, but I want to take my chances on this one...try something new...so please don't lecture that it is a 50 dollor waste of money Thanx in Advance.

I am sorry that I havent got a chance to return your e-mail Mr. Sherifi, I caught a cold lately and have been day-dreaming everyday. Please give me a few days and I'll reply your e-mail in detail.

BMC filters are better than the two that you mentioned.

I have a 2.3l, with a new mass air flow sensor. It may have been the K&N, no way to know for sure. It comes pre-oiled, perhaps a little too much. Back to the stock filter for me. Search the web for "Jegs" if you want a fair price on K&N. You'll need to provide them with a part #. I first had an ITG filter, when it was the only one available. Buelwinkle compared these some time ago. I don't know anything about Harris' BMC, but I'm curious.

I have heard recently a lot of issues with K&N products. I had a K&N on 3 of my previous cars without issue, but I have heard so many blown MAF that I wouldn't consider it on any of my cars anymore.

I've been running mine for 25,000+ miles without a problem. I did take a piece of paper towel and wipe it down good to remove any excess oil, since I had heard about the problems with the MAF. The best thing about it is that it's easy to take out and knock the dirt & crud out of it-I do it about every 5,000 miles. you'll be amazed at how much crap these intakes ingest.

I'd post a pic of how much comes out, but...y'know...

Ohh yeah. I cleaned my old ones out every 10,000 miles and it took 2 days of cleaning and drying before I would re-install it in my car. Mostly a weekend project.

I just shake mine off every now and then. Some really smart engineer thought it wise to put an intake scoop right above the grill so all road debris gets funneled into it.

As for the MAF sensor, the types of MB's that had this problem had the MAF located inches after the filter, on our s/c cars, that's not likely as it has to travel quite a distance from the intake, through the s/c, down the down tube, through the IC across the bottom front of the car, up to the top of the engine to the MAF. My guess is that any minute amount of oil mist going through the s/c is vaporized. If it did make it to the IC then I would have seen the residue in the piping when I took it apart.

I am not talking just about MB MAF issues, just MAF issues in general among several boards recently. My last K&N was a Pop Charger and was black after 10,000 miles. It took severe cleaning to get it back to red {well white, then red}.

Black is OK, doesn't mean it's blocked. I clean my K&N filters on a regular schedule for 50K miles like in the instructions whether it needs it or not. It's supposed to last 1 million miles, clean it more often and they can't guarantee the million miles. That's what I like about ITG, don't have to clean it, it last the life of the car. Now don't get me wrong, I clean the air filters on our dirt bikes every 10 hours of riding.

Engine won't sound any different with any aftermarket filter.
