Which C-Class?

I am seriously considering buying a C-class MB. I have sorted through at least 10 different cars that I wanted to get ranging from a Boxster, SLK, M Roadster, to S-Type, 3-Series, and an STI. All in all, I've decided I wanted a classy, yet young-looking sedan and decided the C320 is what would best suit me. I've got a need for speed, so I'm sticking with the C320, but I would probably get a used one. Long story short, I'm wondering what the differences between the 2001 and 2002 model years are? If anyone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you're looking at those cars in that range how about a used C32 AMG? It's a hell of a lot faster than the C320 (if speed matters a lot to you).

there basically isn't any difference between the 2001 and 2002 other than the 2002 didn't offer the Sport Pkg which comes with stiffer suspension, textured aluminium trim, 5 spoke 16' rims (w/ slightly wider tires than the none sport I think).

my suggestion is to get the 2002 C320 because there will be less problem if they are not already fixed under tha warranty by the original owner. Or if you want a new car for around the same $$ you can surely get a 2004.5 C230k sport.

C320 All the way. Dont get 01, they are full of bugs since its a first year production. I love my C320! Get an 02 with low miles certified pre owned. Its a great car, you will love it. With some nice wheels and sport springs, it will look Georgous!

FrankW, according to my 2002 C class brochure, there was a C6 Sport package for the sedans. This package was dropped for 2003, then the Sport Sedan models were introduced in Jan 2003.

Unless I'm missing something, a used C32 typically runs $10,000+ more than a used C320. That's definatly not possible on my budget (I am a college student). I will definatly try to get an 02, thanks for all the input.

On a side note, ggong, your car seems like it is pretty sweet. Have any pictures of it?

Thanks!

I'll agree and say to try to find an 02 instead on 01. Reliability is spotty on both models, but the 02 is somewhat better.

If you are looking for something a little offbeat, take a look at 01 and 02 Audi S4's. Good performance and affordability due to extreme depreciation.

I cannot figure it out. Perhaps still leftover negative image from the 80's and the cruise control incidents. Also it doesnt have quite the 'cache' of BMW or Mercedes.

Difference between 01 and 02

I play golf every week with MB-BOB who has an 01 C320, and I have the 02 C320. The biggest difference that I can think of is that the 02 has the HVAC fan for the back seat. Even though this is a "neat" little feature, it does take up most of the lower compartment in the front center arm rest. Other than this, I think both cars are the same.

rev: Have you and MB-BOB both been satisfied with your respective cars? Any minor/major problems thus far? Thanks!

I have been completely satisfied. I have not had any major problems at all. In fact, the only problem that I have had, which just happened about a week ago, is that the inside door handle broke, where it suppose to attach to the door. Not a big deal really, I just need to bring it in to get it fixed. As far as I know, MB-BOB has not had any major issues either, and he seems quite happy with his car.

Yes or No? What do you guys think? These photos were done in Photoshop, just to show the AMG wheels look.

I have those AMGs left over from my old C Class, I wanted to put those on my A4, I have plain center caps. What do you think? I dont want to buy new wheels, I have them for sale in the classifieds though.

No offense gentleMAN, but this thread is for the person who wants to know what kind of C class to buy, not to ask if MB wheels are good for Audi.

what Noble said.

but i'll still answer you. It's your car, if you want to use them on the new A4 and it works then go for it. Just personally I wouldn't put AMG rims on Audi because they don't match the car's style.

Same here; way less issues with my early '01 then I've heard from others.
