Is the autocross at the old Boundary Bay airport? The pavement there really eats up the tires after a few runs. Guess it's designed to stop aircraft in a hurry, but not very good for the car's rubber.

yeah, right. But it's not a big problem if you don't spins your car around and drive it over the limit all the time. And it has more grip than the normal kind of road surface.

How's your friend like his intake? I was thinking about letting my car breath a little more.

Not much difference from it, but it makes the supercharge sounds much louder.

Question

Ok, I'v been out of the "car scene" for a few years here, and there's something that has me confused.

Has the term "coilover" become generic, describing anything with a coil spring? Or is it simply mis-used a lot now?

the reason I ask is, I've heard a bunch of people talk about putting "coilovers" on their cars, yet when I look at them, the coil isn't over anything.

On the front it's over the strut... fine. On the back it's not over the shock, so why the heck are people calling them coilovers???

I used to slalom a Renault 5 TS there back in 1979 with the Solo Drivers' Association. You are right, Boundary Bay eats tires. I remember coming out there with a new pair of Michelin XZX 145-13s on the front (I was always running in bone-stock class) and driving home with half-worn out tires. And the XZX was a VERY hard tire.

But Boundary Bay was fun - even in the 69 HP Renault, it was possible to hit 145 km/h in some of the longer slalom courses. Top end was 165 BTW. Beats the hell out of B Lot at UBC...

Trivia: I was spectating at a slalom at BB in 1980 when Mt. St. Helens blew up early Sunday morning. Man was that a loud boom (200 miles away too)!

you can go to my homepage above to see the results.

and I don't remember exactly what tire pressures he ran, but about 40lbs on street tires, and 36lbs on his 032R.
