OM646 C220 CDI 2003 engine sound and some photos??
I have recorded the engine and attached some photos let me know if it is worth paying 6500euros for it?
Please be patient and listen (MP3) to the sound of the engine, there is a "phiissss" sound at the end of the clip that is kindda getting me worried, is it coming from turbine or it is normal?
If you cannot hear the MP3 file for some reason let me know i will PM you, because i like the car and if it isnt something bad with that engine sound i will buy it on monday.
Please give me an answer because i have put it on hold til Monday!
Best regards,
It is pre-facelift (rust issues) with fabric seats, oh and I think you have an extra zero in the mileage (I hope !)
You must drive it hard and use kickdown to check that there are no turbo issues.

Without knowing the repair history, I could bet atleast these are broken/going wrong:
-Heater booster for CDI engines (for winters, no idea of your country do you need it)
-Inlet manifold flaps, leaking manifold
-Check main thermostat + small thermostat (does it warm up to 90c at all?)
-Check when injectors have been replaced, they are longlasting but it sucks to pay around 500e / piece to replace
-Engine mounts + transmission mount
-Endless misery with the AC stepper motors/links
alecmascot: Maybe the price sounds high for you, but the same cars can cost much more in some other countries. Pre-facelifted W203's here with similar milage are nearly 8k. And 99% of these have fabric seats even in Germany...
For me, the UK/USA/GER cars are very cheap, but I need to pay taxes if I import them (thanks for nothing EU)

I guess we are lucky here in that older cars seem to be relatively cheap.
My late 2004 facelift C180K with 66K miles with fabric trim is worth about £2.2K.
CVX according to the owner and a local mechanic the benz is alright for the year it has. But that phissss sound by the end of the video gets me worried. I dont know if you mangwd to hear it. Other than that it looks ok for 13year old. I dont know if this chassie is galvinazed or not production year 08/2003
I came a cross of another one today 2006 c200 SportEditon with 180.000k for 7600euros. I heard thst c200 are as mot reliable as 220. The owner has added a chip of 30ps morebl but i cannot decided which one i should go for
The ZZZZ sound as the engine revs fall is probably the alternator over-run clutch.
Mine was seized solid when I bought the car and it made nasty mechanical noises when the engine revs slowed suddenly. About £40 for the part and 1/2 labour.
Reading the forums the C270 5 cylinder engine is one of the best. No timing chain or balancer-shaft issues.

If I could have bought a post-facelift (2004.5) C270 I would have, but ended up with the C180K. The C270 was discontinued in early 2004.
And cvx is right:
-Heater booster with Pcode showing on my car
-Inlet manifold flaps - removed them already (i highly advice checking after buying a used car).
-Check main thermostat - changed it recently
-Check when injectors have been replaced - just repaired a leaking one
-Engine mounts + transmission mount - about to change them
Cheers
